GEC® LDN Launches Limited Edition Distress Collection By George Clarke

Menswear designer George Clarke launches his new denim line, distress – a sustainable streetwear collection, up-cycling and re-working existing products to create new and unique designs, silhouettes, prints and textures.

Thought provoking, ethical, progressive and cool – the distress collection proves to be another triumph for Clarke, a talented and courageous, pioneering artist who’s efforts and impact will be felt within the industry for many years to come.

Dissecting and deciphering the effects of mental illness within todays society, interwoven with the idea of internal imprisonment, George Clarke explores and incorporates some of todays most prevalent social issues through the distress collection – examining how being trapped in one’s own mind can cause severe anxiety and psychological damage.

“Mental health plays a part in my own personal life.” Clarke admits. “So being creative and designing is my way to escape and communicate my creativity.”

“Not only does the title of the collection ‘distress’ come from the de-stressed and relaxed feeling I get whilst I’m designing, but it also relates to the practical design process which involves distressing and manipulating fabrics in multiple techniques, simulating marks of age and wear.”

“Being able to escape, to feel inspired and be creative within your own mind.”
– George Clarke

Taking inspiration from some of London’s greatest street culture ‘identities’, and combining their styles and aesthetics with the mixed textures, colours and feel of abandoned, derelict areas in and around the city, George creates clothing that helps his customers to feel inspired and creative within their own lives and in their own minds.
