Frank Ocean has been today been unveiled as the face of Italian fashion house Prada’s SS20 Menswear campaign.
The recently-announced Coachella headliner stars alongside actor Austin Butler and director Nicolas Winding Refn in the ads, photographed by famed British fashion photographer David Sims.
“Prada Spring/Summer 2020 menswear campaign features a trinity of contemporary creatives, pivotal cultural personalities of now and archetypes of the hyper fragmented mindset of tomorrow.” the luxury label explained of the trios casting in a statement.
“Each embodies a single identity of the Prada man, one aspect, one outlook, multiplied by each image, each definition… each of these men uses words to define themselves: the lyrics of a song, the words of a script. They are a blueprint, a template, for life, for living, for feeling.”
“Here, words are used as a means to redefine the image, to attempt to define the indefinable – PRADA.”
Embracing the Indefinability
Captured in both black and white and technicolour, each of the ads sees the three men wearing different looks from the Optimist Rhythm collection, with the Prada logo turned vertically, made to represent different acronyms described as being “influenced by abstract ideas, thoughts, notions: they provoke, sometimes adding context, sometimes positing a contradiction, always sparking thought.”
For Ocean’s colour shot, the Novacane singer is seen standing in a parquet-floored, New York style apartment wearing a dark long tailored coat, oversized shirt, cropped camel trousers, chunky military style boots and a slim bolo tie, not too dissimilar to the one he wore at last years ‘CAMP’ themed Met Gala.
In the second image, Frank wears a simple yet chic black roll-neck sweater.
