Say ‘hello’ to Lara Pictet…

Actress, producer, writer and fashion QUEEN Lara Pictet has made quite a name for herself in the world of entertainment since embarking on her career as an actress back in the early 2000’s, with roles in films Flirting and Dating For Dummies, Orloj, Mediated and Sealed.

Currently riding high following the success of Beast, the drama adventure movie on which she served as producer, the 2018 motion picture went on to win numerous awards including; the Grand Jury Award at SXSW; Jury Award at Bentonville Film Festival; Best Digital Series at DCWebFest; Best Series at SeriesFest; Best Cinematography and Best Scripted Series Telly Awards.

Ahead of By Light of Desert Night’s release, we caught up with the super talented, and uber stylish Lara to talk FASHION, BEAUTY, STYLE INSPO and BODY CONFIDENCE!

How would you best describe your own personal style?

I  would say… casual chic, meets vintage bohemian!

Where do you look to find inspiration for outfits?

I read a lot magazines and often find inspired there, or from films and T.V. shows!

What 3 items do you always carry with you in your handbag?

Hmm… only 3? That’s a tough one, but my absolute essentials would be lipstick/lipgloss, hand sanitiser/moisturising cream and my card holder.

Can you tell us a secret makeup tip?

Oh yes, I have plenty of those! I mix my foundation with a bit of my face cream, and a bit of aloe vera to make it look more my natural colour and less “blot” like – it’s also delicious for your face’s moisture! And if I want to wear a little bit of eye shadow, I tend to add a droplet of my face oil/serum into my eyeshadow so it looks brand new and fresh when applied on my eyelids. Another tip is, if your skin is really dry causing your eyeshadow to blot, take a little brush and brush some aloe vera on your eyelids, it will moisten for your skin to look radiant and ready for eyeshadow! And for an all natural eco-friendly lip gloss, I mix some aloe vera with food colouring, mix it and apply it with a brush! Finally to top it all off, I mix: water, aloe vera, witch hazel and a drop of essential oil, put it in an empty spray bottle and you have yourself an all natural make-up fixer!

Do you have a favourite red carpet look of yours from over the years?

When I went to the Golden Globes in 2017, I wore this green mermaid looking dress! I loved that dress and it was so comfortable, I could dance in it all night long!

What one style trend from the past do you most want to see make a comeback?

Honestly, they’ve all kind of peaked their way back and I love that they did! Anything from crop tops and bell bottoms to leggings with oversized sweaters or leather jackets or padded jackets… love- love-LOVE!

Is there a particular era of fashion that you love / wish you’d been a part of?

Absolutely! The extravagant gowns à la Française from the 1700’s; I would love to know what it was like wearing these beautifully hand made, fragile gowns with those beautiful corsets for 15 hours! I would just be fascinated to learn how to walk, stand, sit and live in those gowns.

Who is your all-time fashion icon?

I go back and forth (mainly because of my big hair!) between Grace Kelly and Rita Hayworth – they both exude such elegance and class, but also have this feminine power and sensuality that I cherish and really respect!

Which other celebrity’s wardrobe would you love to have free reign of?

I would say Hailey Bieber – her stylist Maeve Reilly knows how to pick the perfect balance between sport/casual chic, elegant and sexy! They make a great team.

What advice you would give to anybody not feeling so confident about themselves and how they look?

Change it up! Don’t be afraid to try something new, you might see a side of you you didn’t know you had or were afraid to see, but it actually presents you in the best light! Never be afraid to find yourself in different lights and angles… go for it, you have nothing to lose!
