The songs of Ariana Grande’s ‘thank u, next’ RANKED

Ariana Grande has been through a lot this year, and it’s all led up to her fifth studio album thank u, next, which dropped today just six months after her previous album, Sweetener. As we did with Sweetener, we are here today to rank the songs of Ariana Grande’s newest album – but keep in mind that this is only one opinion and your ranking is likely to differ from ours!

12. ghostin

Though this is last on our list, “ghostin” is anything but bad. Here, Ariana sounds sweet as ever, and the song actually sounds like it belongs on Sweetener.

11. make up

You can almost hear the hopefulness in Ariana’s voice in this track. Light yet powerful, her voice is a force to be reckoned with.

10. imagine

Released in the lead-up to the album, this song is impressive in its belts and does a wonderful job of opening the album while highlighting Ariana’s true range.

9. needy

“Needy” is another example of this album being full of amazing songs – but because they’re all amazing, it sees it itself toward the bottom of the list. “Needy” is brilliant and raw, and we’re obsessed with it.

8. in my head

One of the most relatable tracks on the album, “in my head” tells the story of Ariana creating someone and a scenario in her head – and we’ve all been there. Only in Ariana’s case she sings it gorgeously.

7. fake smile

More than any other, “fake smile” is a testament to true strength. It’s no secret that Ariana has been to Hell and back over the last year, but here she manages to turn that strength into this sonically beautiful song.

6. NASA

Here, Ariana connects space between people to outer space and it simply works. Both cute and powerful, this track is a winner in our books.

5. 7 rings

A staple from the album, “7 rings” proves Ariana’s true R&B capabilities with swanky beats and exciting lyrics.

4. break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored

The third single from the album, “break up with your girlfriend, i’m bored” sees Ariana learning and practicing self-love, which is made more clear in the music video, and we are more than here for this brilliant singer embracing herself, her self-worth, her abilities, and her power.

3. bloodline

In “bloodline,” Ariana combines deep-rooted feelings of falling out of love flourish over a danceable beat and it’s honestly the combination we’ve been craving.

2. thank u, next

This isn’t the eponymous track for no reason. “Thank u, next” showcases everything we love about Ariana: her voice, her versatility, and her ability to emote and create a narrative. Oh, and the music video is iconic.

1. bad idea

Finally, we arrive at our number 1 spot, which we have granted to “bad idea.” This track is beautiful with tinges of edginess and dancehall beats. It’s a complete package that has us elated every time we listen to it.

Thank u, next, is available to purchase and stream everywhere you listen to music, including iTunes, Spotify, and Apple Music.
