Fuzzable blogs : June 7 , The variety in Volunteering

There is a saying one man’s trash is another person’s treasure. And it’s true. For awhile before I got my current job I worked in a charity shop. I spent hours trawling through donations to find stock to put on the shop floor and I loved it.

From Topshop and Primark to Max Azria,Burberry Louis Vuitton and everything in between it gave me an appreciation for fashion.

I started volunteering in my local charity shop at the age of 16. I learnt so much about retail and about fashion. Now I write for Fuzzable and another site called CelebMix as it allows me to do what I love which is write and edit.

Volunteering is a great way to discover a new hobby and meet new people. You also get to giveback to your community and there is the added bonus of it being a great talking point in interviews for you to draw experience from and to jazz up your CV a bit and make you stand out from other applicants. You can also  depending where you volunteer gain various qualifications like BTEC’s and NVQ’s for free.

There are tons of ways you can volunteer from local radio,to dog walking, to writing for a website like Fuzzable. It’s a pretty endless list which has something for everyone on it.

Vinspired in the UK is an amazing network for seeing what is out there in the volunteering world. You just entered your age, your interest, postcode and how much time you can commit  and it comes back with a list.

If you have some free time over the summer, then volunteering would be a great thing to do and I think everyone here who writes for Fuzzable can vouch for that.
