This is Us star Chris Sullivan, who plays Toby Damon on the hit NBC show, will be recording TWLOHA’s first-ever podcast live at the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles, CA, on Sunday, December 16th.
If you’ve been watching This is Us, you’ll know that Toby — who is married to Kate Pierson (Chrissy Metz) — has been struggling with his mental illness on the show. His realistic performance of the ups and downs of taking medication to ease the depths of his depression and anxiety has earned him critical and fan praise the world over.
So, it would make sense that he’s partnering with TWLOHA, or To Write Love on Her Arms, a nonprofit dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. It exists to encourage, inform, inspire, and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery. Since its start in 2006, TWLOHA has donated over $2.2 million directly into treatment and recovery and answered over 200,000 messages from over 100 countries.
Chris made a post about his upcoming podcast recording on his Instagram page.
Jamie Tworkowski, who founded TWLOHA, said that having Sullivan as the first podcast guest was an obvious choice. “We’re so grateful for Chris Sullivan’s support of TWLOHA. On This Is Us, mental health has been a big part of his character Toby’s story. Meanwhile, TWLOHA just launched a podcast. We’re thrilled that all of these elements can come together for this special event,” Tworkowski said.
In addition to interviewing with the founder of the wonderful organization, Sullivan will also be performing songs from his upcoming album.
