Here at Fuzzable, we love to read, binge-watch movies, and listen to music, squeezing the most out of me-time in our busy lives. However, we’re also big fans of podcasts and after listening to some of the most fun, entertaining and informative podcasts in existence, we’ve decided to share reviews of some of our faves.
This month’s podcast review is all about Off Menu with Ed Gamble and James Acaster!
What is Off Menu?
Off Menu is a food-related podcast starring comedians and fellow food lovers Ed Gamble and James Acaster. Each episode, the pair invite a special guest into their magical restaurant where they can choose their dream meal, consisting of their favorite starter, main course, side dish, dessert, and drink. Plus, James, the restaurant’s genie waiter, offers the guest a choice of still or sparkling water as well as “POPPADOMS OR BREAD?” before they pick their dream starter.
Ed and James then interrogate their guest on their choices, unraveling hilarious stories and special memories surrounding their dream options. Each week, there is also a chosen secret ingredient that Ed and James hate – if the guest happens to mention it, then they’ll be kicked out of the dream restaurant.
Why do we love it?
The beauty of Off Menu is that it’s such a simple concept, yet it is executed incredibly well thanks to James and Ed’s comedic banter. There are no rules when it comes to picking a dream menu – the choices don’t have to make sense and each dish can be from a different restaurant or country from anywhere in the world. We love hearing the reasons why the guest has chosen specific dishes, especially when it allows them to reminisce over childhood memories or just a really fantastic meal they once had.
Whether you’re a real ‘foodie’ or want to try something new, Off Menu also allows you to discover new foods and restaurants. Not only does pretty much every episode discuss a restaurant or dish that deserves attention, but there’s also a list of the mentioned restaurants on the Off Menu website so you can go and check them out for yourself.
Off Menu has also made us think (in detail) about what we would choose as our dream menu if we were a guest on the show. It’s made me realize that I am very basic and would probably wind up Ed and James with my choices, however, there’s no chance of me ever stumbling upon their secret ingredient and getting kicked out!
We’re not the only ones who love Off Menu either. The podcast has a dedicated following online, including its own Reddit threat as well as a No Context Off Menu Twitter account which keeps a poppadoms or bread tally and even created this hilarious bingo card featuring some of the most likely things to happen/be said during an episode which would make a great drinking game.

What is our favourite episode?
With three series, 64 episodes, and a whole host of incredible guests and moments to choose from, it’s difficult to pick just one favorite. However, if we had James Acaster screaming “WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE EPISODE?” in our face like he screams “POPPADOMS OR BREAD?” in guests’ faces then we’d pick episode six featuring Joel Dommett.
Unlike many of the other guests, Joel isn’t particularly a ‘foodie’ and chose some pretty basic meals which I personally relate to. It’s nice to hear about some of the extravagant options that some guests choose, but I definitely prefer hearing about the bog-standard meals which also seem to enrage James and Ed so much. This episode in particular is just hilarious, with Joel’s choices, including sausage, beans, chips, and cheese plus a strawberry protein shake causing absolute outrage.
Other favourite guests of ours include Tom Kerridge, Jamie Demetriou, Victoria Coren Mitchell, Jordan Bando, Daisy May Cooper, and Katherine Ryan. We also have to give a shout out to Ed and James’ epic Bertie Bassett rant at the beginning of episode nine!
