In recent years, DC has more than caught up with Marvel in the movie department. Between the successes of both Wonder Woman and, now, Aquaman, DC has come a long way from the early days of Zack Snyder movies.
Of course, DC has its animation department to credit for a lot of its success, as well — because unlike the live-action films, which only recently have become worthy of note, the animation has always been consistent in its excellent quality.
That commitment to excellence is evident in DC Entertainment’s latest release, Reign of the Supermen, whose premieres in Los Angeles and New York will be happening this month.
Reign of the Supermen finds Earth’s citizens – and the Man of Steel’s heroic contemporaries – dealing with a world without Superman. But the aftermath of Superman’s death, and the subsequent disappearance of his body, leads to a new mystery – is Superman still alive? The question is further complicated when four new super-powered individuals – Steel, Cyborg Superman, Superboy and the Eradicator – emerge to proclaim themselves as the ultimate hero. In the end, only one will be able to proclaim himself the world’s true Superman.
Jerry O’Connell, who first came to prominence when he was a child in the film Stand by Me, leads the voice cast in the role of Superman. O’Connell is the first in an all-star cast that includes Jason O’Mara (The Man in the High Castle, Terra Nova), the voice of Batman; Patrick Fabian (Better Call Saul), voice of Cyborg Superman and Hank Henshaw; Tony Todd (Candyman), voice of Darkseid; Charles Halford (Constantine), voice of both Bibbo Bibbowski and The Eradicator; and Toks Olagundoye (Castle), voice of Cat Grant.
Reign of the Supermen will premiere in Los Angeles at the Paley Center in Beverly Hills on January 10th. It will then premiere in New York on January 28, 2019. The film then arrives from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Digital starting January 15, 2019, and on Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack and Blu-ray Combo Pack on January 29, 2019.
