Rising indie-pop artist Alice Gray is delivering the official music video for her latest single “Hell With You.” Shot on 16mm film, director Devin Glass and cinematographer Carter Ross help to create the whimsical dreamscape that Alice aptly calls “Turbo Kid meets Phantom Thread.”
Alice Gray is a true California girl at heart. Her hypnotic breezy songs feel made for a cruise down the Pacific Coast Highway. With an extensive background in fine art, Alice also brings to the table a defined aesthetic that shines through in her music and visuals. She has innate creativity in all aspects of her work. Kicking off her artist project in 2017 with her debut single “Pink Cadillac,” Alice has kept the buzz alive with a consistent roll-out of feel-good hits, including streaming successes “Take Me to the Water” and “Lay Down.” Her music has already garnered the attention of Spotify’s New Music Friday, and likes from big publications and blogs; and with an EP slated for later this summer, Alice Gray is an artist you’re going to want to keep on your radar.
About the “Hell With You” music video, Alice explains. “I’ve been wanting to do a full narrative that incorporates styles that really reflect my taste. I was inspired by the adventure of Turbo Kid, which is like an R-rated Stranger Things, and by Phantom Thread’s storyline which really characterized the concept of ‘I kind of like living in Hell With You.” She continues, “It’s campy, surreal, comedic and alludes to past singles ‘Take Me To The Water’ and ‘Pink Cadillac.’ See if you can catch the Easter eggs.”
The song revolves around Alice Gray’s long term complicated relationship and accepting the challenges. The video is an exaggerated spin on a tumultuous relationship. “We see the good and the bad between lovers characterized by the devil and an angel. The devil is classically portrayed as the villain throughout the film, but in the end, the angel is just as twisted as he is“, says Alice Gray.
The music video was all shot on film so it had to be done really carefully and precisely with maximum 1-2 takes to get the perfect final shot. Big shout out to Alice Gray, Devin Glass, and Carter Ross who made that happen to perfection as the music video looks stunning to watch!
