With the release of her first-ever solo EP, Maria, Hwasa of Mamamoo adorns the upcoming August cover of Cosmopolitan Korea. Hwasa aka Ahn Hyejin has always portrayed a fierce persona through the group’s music and performances. The first time we saw her breathtaking visuals on the cover of Cosmopolitan Korea was in August of 2019 where she wore a black two-piece on one of the covers and an iconic cover-your-body-with-a-white-sheet look.
It was playful and daring, but this time around, it seems like she went for a more mature look with the faux wet-hair, a sleek ponytail, and an intense look in her eyes.
She hasn’t strayed too far off from that powerful character that she embodies with her solo work either. She showcases a perfect balance of vulnerability and strength. Her fashion sense, with which she explores and experiments, never fail to make a statement that resounds with the audience and delivers her message.
In the celebration of Hwasa’s solo work, both, with music and the cover, we have decided to compile a few of our favorite Hwasa fashion choices that she wore with the recent comeback activities:
Going Retro: Old Times, Golden Times
Hwasa takes on a retro theme with a gold mesh inverted-triangle top paired with the gold-threaded pants in the new Cosmopolitan Korea edition. We love how the gold goes so well with her skin tone.
Balance in Contrast
Like her fans, we are eagerly waiting to see Hwasa perform live with this one! Her red silky off-shoulder dress, that she wears in the powerful music video of Maria, among other outfits, caught our eye with the bold color choice contrasting with the soft flow of the fabric.
Make Comfort Stylish
When it comes to fashion, this icon has a Midas’ touch. Hwasa’s signature graphic top with the baggy sweatpants look comfortable yet chic as she rocks the choreography with 1 Million Studio team.
Statement in White
An all-white outfit, though gorgeous, is a hard one to pull off. Hwasa, in her latest comeback performance on Inkigayo 20200705, made a strong fashion statement and paired the full-length white lace gloves to her all-white outfit.
Hwasa X Army Pants: A Collaboration We Approve
This flattering combination of the cropped silk shirt and the army pants along with some iconic boots she wore on Music Bank on 20200703 perfectly represents the vibe of the song Maria.
“If I don’t fit in this generation’s standard of beauty, then I will have to become a different standard,” she said on stage once after years of being a target of body-shaming by many offline and online.
She consoles herself and inspires her fans to be their authentic self unapologetically with her message. Her fashion fits seamlessly with that concept and we hope she continues to empower us with her music and actions.
