Infinity War: A Spoiler-Free Avengers Review

It’s the film ten years in the making… Avengers: Infinity War premiered last night in the United States, and it’s safe to say the gasps, sobbing, laughter, and every reaction in-between were completely warranted. I will be as vague as possible while attesting to the success of the film.

Infinity War is a good progression from the last two films, Thor: Ragnarok and Black Panther. It deals with the aftermath of Ragnarok, and a lot of the fight on Earth occurs in Wakanda. Some Ragnarok-like comedy is sprinkled throughout the film, but it’s just enough to balance the film’s tone, with Thanos on a quest of devastation and whatnot. It additionally continues to show the fallout of Civil War, which left the Avengers fractured, in a very natural advancement.

Thanos’ goal is explored nicely. His commentary on what he wants to achieve and why he wants to achieve it, along with a flashback that supplements his and another character’s story, do not necessarily make you feel bad for him, but they do help you understand his position and why he is doing what he’s doing – even if he’s going about it the wrong way.

With such a large roster of characters appearing in the film, many believed that the film would feel cluttered and some characters would be shafted for others. However, while watching it, it quickly becomes clear that we shouldn’t doubt Marvel’s capability. The characters are balanced well and the pairings the scriptwriters made throughout the film worked well. Without spoiling anything, the relationship between Iron Man and Spider Man continues to be developed and it’s really wonderful.

No matter how ready you think you are, be ready to laugh, tear up, smile, and utilize every emotion you have. You may think you are ready, but many surprises await you from the very beginning.

The arc Infinity War began, whose roots grow back ten years, will be continued in the still-untitled fourth Avengers film next year. Until then, we have a couple films to tide us over, including this summer’s Ant-Man and the Wasp.

Have you seen Avengers: Infinity War? If you have, let us know what you thought and what you’re most looking forward to in next year’s sequel! And if you haven’t yet seen it, we’d love to hear your pre-conceived notions and what you’re excited to see in it!
