Fuzzmas Advent Awards: Day Two!

Welcome to the Fuzzmas Advent Awards, a series running every day throughout December celebrating all our favourite things from 2018. Today we’re counting down the top 5 of our favorite films.

2018 has been an excellent year for cinema. From rom-coms to superhero flicks to comedies, this year has not lacked with good content. Below are our favorite five feature films from the past year!

5. Love, Simon

Beginning our list is none other than Love, Simon. Based on the hit book Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli, this movie championed normalizing coming out and offered for the first time a rom-com type of movie for gay individuals. The film is serious, funny, and beautiful, and we hope Albertalli’s other books, namely Leah on the Offbeat, are turned into feature films as well!

4. Ocean’s 8

A lot of people were skeptical when Ocean’s 8 was announced because they loved Ocean’s 11 so much, but we can sincerely say that this film did not disappoint. Hands down, the best part of this film is the cast. Boasting Rihanna, Cate Blanchett, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, and more incredible actors, there was no way seeing all of these phenomenal people in one film wouldn’t turn out stellar.

3. Black Panther

With such a ground-breaking film being released this year, it had to be on this list. Black Panther is nothing short of a sheer celebration of humanity, diversity, and love. The cast, costumes, acting, and CGI are all completely incredible. On top of that, the plot is also well-developed. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should watch Black Panther immediately.

2. Avengers: Infinity War

There was no way this film wasn’t making this list. We wrote a full review of this film when it was first released, but the shortened version is that this film perfectly balances the rich roster of characters present in a way that makes this more than simply a superhero movie. The villain, Thanos, is given depth, and all of the other characters have their own feelings and motives. It’s delicious!

1. The Greatest Showman

The Greatest Showman, though it was technically released on Christmas in 2017, truly exceeded expectations in 2018. The acting and messages in the film are brilliant, and the film’s soundtrack is beautiful and empowering. Everything culminates to make it one of the best films of 2018!
