Since 2013, Conan Gray has been posting videos about his life to YouTube. With covers and original songs sprinkled in between his frequent vlogs, Gray has gained a large following that has continued to support him in his newest endeavors. With his debut EP, Sunset Season, recently released, Fuzzable hopes to introduce readers to this influencer who is sure to continue making waves.
Now at age 19, Gray has literally grown up in front of a camera. His earliest YouTube videos include him doing classic YouTube challenges, but as time has gone on, he has incorporated covers with his guitar, thrift store hauls, and art advice videos. The generally calm and casual nature of Gray’s videos makes viewers feel as though they are simply having tea with an old friend.
This personable feeling has translated into Gray’s original music. Over the past few years, he has released singles such as “Lovesick Boys” and “Grow“, each with over one million views on his channel. On November 16, Gray released his debut EP, Sunset Season, to his anticipating fans and was met with quick praise. The EP contains three previously-released songs, “Idle Town“, “Generation Why“, and “Crush Culture“, in addition to two brand new songs, “Greek God” and “Lookalike“.
“I began this EP in the bedroom of my tiny town, recording on a mic I’d taped to a broken lamp. Five songs and a lifetime later, I hope it’ll play in your bedroom,” said Gray on Twitter, the day the EP was released. “I hope you laugh, dance, and cry.”
The album takes listeners through different emotional journeys, making them feel everything from nostalgic to powerful to emotional. The songs speak to Gray’s generation in a way that does not feel artificial or like it is preaching anything. His music feels simply real and authentic.
In March of next year, Gray will be going on the second part of his nearly sold-out Sunset Shows tour across the US and Canada. Check to see if your city still has tickets to this not-to-miss tour by clicking here.
