Back in 1999, American novelist, screenwriter, and film director Stephen Chbosky released his debut novel, The Perks of Being A Wallflower.
The critically acclaimed coming-of-age book resonated with and captured the hearts of people across the globe, selling millions of copies worldwide. It was even turned into a major motion picture starring Emma Watson and Logan Lerman in 2012, with Chbosky at the helm of directing and producing.
Now, twenty years later, Chbosky has announced that he will be releasing his second novel Imaginary Friend, a piece of work which has been nine years in the making.
With a release date of October 1, Imaginary Friend looks set to be a haunting read which will mesmerise audiences all over again.
According to Waterstones, the official synopsis reads:
Kate Reese is a single mother fleeing an abusive relationship by starting over in a new town, with her young son Christopher. But Mill Grove, Pennsylvania, is not the safe place they thought it would be…
Their world begins to unravel after Christopher vanishes into the Mission Street Woods – where 50 years earlier an eerily similar disappearance occurred. When he emerges six days later, unharmed but not unchanged, he brings with him a secret: a voice only he can hear and a warning of tragedy to come.
What follows is a moving, thrilling, chilling modern masterpiece – a work of towering imagination and emotional depth which unfolds on an epic canvas.Waterstones – Imaginary Friend, Stephen Chbosky
