Edmund Hillary AW18 Collection

Edmund Hillary is a brand new premium, lifestyle clothing label – inspired by the legendary mountaineer Edmund Hillary and his climb on the 1953 Mount Everest Expedition.

Founded by Edmund’s son Peter Hillary and Auckland businessman Mike Hall-Taylor, the brands new AW18 Collection was officially launched at New Zealand Fashion Week, where 3 of Hillary’s grandchildren took to the catwalk to model pieces from the range.

“The Edmund Hillary Collection has been created to inspire the adventurer and capture his essence in every one of our individually crafted products.”

Described as unique, luxurious and fresh in its feel, the new collection, consisting of 25 pieces, delivers a contemporary re-evaluation of the key styles and silhouettes documented during Hillary’s historic expedition.

From puffers to anoraks, vintage-looking woollen army jackets to classic hand-knitted sweaters (made from un-dyed British wool) and fine knits made from New Zealand merino — names of the garments include Summit, Yeti, Himalaya and Base Camp.

WHO WAS EDMUND HILLARY?

Sir Edmund Percival Hillary was a mountaineer, explorer, philanthropist, husband and father.

Born in Auckland, New Zealand to parents Percival Augustus and Gertrude (née Clark) in 1919, Edmund along with climbing partner Tenzing Norgay, became the first (confirmed) climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest, the world’s highest mountain.

Following his ascent of Everest, considered by many as being one of the greatest achievements of the 20th century, Hillary established the Himalayan Trust, an international non-profit humanitarian organisation, setup to improve the health, education and general wellbeing of mountain people living in Nepal.

Edmund Hillary died aged 88 on January 11th, 2008.

“Adventure for the sake of a dream,
for the pleasure of searching.”

– Sir Edmund Hillary

Edmund Hillary: It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves.

Edmund Hillary is not your average, menswear clothing line – it is a brand clearly designed to capture the heart and spirit of a man who was once described as being the ‘best-known New Zealander ever to have lived‘.

Edmund’s outlook, morals and ethos truly are the heart of the brand, and are evident in the fact that the company seeks to reinforce the initial expedition’s ties with the Nepalese Sherpa community with a proportion of all collection sales to be donated to the Edmund Hillary Brands Trust, which continues to support the 42 schools, hospitals and medical clinics in the Mount Everest region.

“My father’s adventurous spirit lives on through our family and now through the Edmund Hillary Brand. Together we continue his legacy into the future.”

– Peter Hillary
