Fuzzmas Advent Awards: Day Seventeen

Welcome to the Fuzzmas Advent Awards, a series running every day throughout December celebrating all our favourite things from 2018. Today we’re counting down our top five comedians from this year.

2018 has been a great year in comedy and we’ve spend a large proportion of the year laughing our socks off at a number of incredible comedians. From well-loved sitcom stars, YouTube comedians to TV talent show winners, we’ve been spoilt for choice when it comes to people making us laugh this year.

For day seventeen of our Fuzzmas Advent Awards, we’ve rounded up five of our favourite comedians who’ve made us chuckle, cackle and belly laugh loudly over the past twelve months.

5. Jamie Demetriou

Jamie has been making us laugh this year with his six-part Channel 4 comedy series Stath Lets Flats. He made his first appearance as Stath back in 2013 when he wrote and starred in a Channel 4 short called Comedy Blaps, and five years later it was finally time to see Jamie take Stath to whole new levels of idiocy. We also love that he stars alongside his real-life sister Natasia, who plays his on-screen sibling Sophie.

4. Liza Koshy

Liza is one of our favourite YouTube comedians and this year she took her humour up a notch with her YouTube Premium series Liza On Demand. The original series follows Liza and her chaotic adventures as she takes on various jobs in order to reach ‘elite status’ working for the app, Taskit. Not only does Liza make us laugh as the star of the show, but she is also a co-creator and executive producer.

3. Tom Rosenthal

Tom has been busy making us laugh this year as both Jonny Goodman and Marcus Gallo in the latest series of Friday Night Dinner and Plebs respectively. The comedian’s sarcastic humour was further showcased during a Roast Battle on Comedy Central against Chris Ramsey as well as MTV’s Refreshers, where he took on the role of the University Dean. When not leaving us in hysterics on TV, Tom also took his sharp comedy to the Edinburgh Fringe where he performed a work in progress show.

2. Awkwafina

Awkwafina has been making us laugh for a long time thanks to her viral comedy-infused raps. 2018 was no different thanks to her latest EP In Fina We Trust, which includes tracks such as ‘Pockiez’, ‘Cakewalk’ and ‘The Fish’. Of course, she’s also been bringing humour to the silver screen with roles in Crazy Rich Asians (one of the most talked about movies of the year) and the all-female Oceans 8, starring alongside Rihanna, Sandra Bullock and Anne Hathaway.

1. Lost Voice Guy

Lee Ridley, also known as Lost Voice Guy, won the hearts of the nation when he entered this year’s Britain’s Got Talent. The comedian, who uses a communication aid in his routines after being left unable to speak due to a neurological form of cerebral palsy, brought the laughs in each round and eventually won the competition, beating fellow comedian Robert White. As part of his prize, earlier this month he performed at the Royal Variety Performance in London in front of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Throughout December we will be running our advent awards, so check back daily to find out what we’re celebrating this Fuzzmas.
