Independent artist Kat Saul has released her latest track, “Compromise.” It follows her debut EP …from Unit 408, which was released earlier this year, and is potentially her most personal track yet.

We were delighted to cover the release of …from Unit 408 prior to its March 2019 release, and this track continues the momentum she laid out in that EP. She continues to riff off of artists such as Charli XCX while carving her own niche in the alt-pop genre.
Now, matters simply get a little more personal in this slowed-down track. As Saul rises in the music industry, releasing more music and making more connections, she appears to be coming to terms with a separation between work and home life. The beginning of the song hears Saul bluntly say, “I can’t have kids.” From there, we knew we were in for an honest track—and Saul delivers with a beautiful, guitar-studded ballad.
In the chorus, she sings:
…maybe we’re too young to sacrifice. I don’t know if I should settle for ya for your life just to keep you in mine. I don’t wanna compromise.
Her career is beginning to take off, and as the entertainment industry calls, she may have to relocate to Los Angeles, where she remarks that LA doesn’t fit her partner. This song appears to serve as a form of catharsis for Saul, where she can talk through the matter with herself, allowing her to truly process the gravity of the situation. Still, she asserts, “I don’t wanna compromise”—and we don’t blame her! Chase your dreams!
In addition to the song, Saul released the music video for “Compromise” earlier this month on June 7. It can be watched below:
