Want to be a minimalist? Try these techniques…

Minimalism is a way of life. It may sound interesting and easy to adapt to this lifestyle but it needs a lot of commitment and action. You cannot simply decide that you want to live a minimalist life and start living it, you need to take certain steps to prepare yourself for a different way of life.

Write it down

First and foremost, you need to write down all the reasons why you want to adapt to a minimalist lifestyle. No matter what the reasons are, once you write them down, it will give you leverage and will ensure you keep going. Your why will help you remember what matters and why you are where you are today.

Remove the duplicates

At the next step, you need to walk through the home with a box and fill it with duplicates. You only need one of everything, books, cups, DVDs, and the rest. Simply keep one for yourself and put the duplicate in a box. You can put them away for now and donate them at a later stage.

Have a clutter-free zone

You can set aside a clutter-free area in your home. It could be a kitchen, a living room or a corner in your bedroom. This space will make you feel how it is to live with less clutter in life. For those who desire a more minimalist lifestyle, Stanley Acton of Acton ADU (https://actonadu.com/) says living in an ADU is an ideal way to help you declutter your life.

Travel light

Travel will renew your love to live simply. When you take a trip, pack for half the time and include only the essentials. Do not carry unnecessary baggage with you. If you are traveling for four days, pack clothes for two days.

Dress with less

Consider Project 333 which means you dress with only 33 items for 3 months. It might sound extreme but a lot of people agree to the fact that it makes life easier.

Eat similar meals

If you consider the amount of time you spend thinking about what you are going to eat for lunch, dinner, and breakfast, you will realize that food is really not simple. Try eating the same breakfast and lunch throughout the week or have a couple of dinner choices that rotate throughout the week.

The beauty of minimalism is that you can be daring and curious. You can ask for help and look forward to different adventures in life. There will be less drama, less debt, and less obligation. The minimalist way of life might sound attractive from afar but it needs a lot of work, patience, and commitment. You can set a target for yourself for one month and see how you live with minimum food, dresses, and items in your house. Once you adapt to this way of life, you will realize that simplicity is much better than having a house cluttered with items that you do not need or no longer use.
