This fantastic movie based on the bestselling book of W. Bruce Cameron gives us a glimpse into the head of dogs. It not only makes us think about the bond between us and our pets deeply and a bit differently, but it also teaches us so many things about life.
I recently wrote a review about “A Dog’s Purpose” on CelebMix, but now on Fuzz, as a second part, I’m sharing my thoughts about the biggest questions of the moving story.
See what you can learn from a film about dogs!
“A Dog’s Purpose”, though from a dog’s perspective, but tries to find an appropriate answer to why we are here on Earth, what’s the actual purpose of our life.
You don’t have to ask, listen to me: there’s no answer to this question, and the search for one is a waste of time. We all need something in life that motivates us to keep going, but if we don’t have anything yet there’s nothing to worry about.
That one thing will find us, even if we don’t search for it. It will catch us immediately and completely unaware.
In the film, Bailey kept searching for the meaning of his life, and every time he was reincarnated he found a new purpose, a new challenge. All four of his lives had something in store for the little dog. Once he had to grow up together with a young boy and make him happy, after that he saved lives, then he helped a girl find love, and finally, he returned to his original owner Ethan and caused him an incredible amount of happiness. Yet, all in all, his mission was to teach people how to love and how to laugh.
From this, we learn that whatever we think of, one thing, that love is the most important thing, and is a kind of purpose, is sure. Whatever is our role in life, whatever we do, there’s nothing more certain than love. If we have it in our life then, well, we can make sure that we already have a purpose – as Bailey mentioned in the movie.
If I can get you licking and loving, I have my purpose.
Another thing I wanted to mention is the joy. I surely know that the best times of our lives go so incredibly fast, and they don’t last forever, unfortunately. If we keep on thinking and guessing about what makes sense and what not, we don’t live life the fullest. We miss out the moments we would remember for a lifetime, we miss out being really happy, joyful. Our life needs us – I mean, we must live in the moment and forget about everything else that is uncertain. Maybe Bailey in the movie was reborn more than once, but it doesn’t guarantee that we’ll reincarnate and will have another, and another chance to correct our mistakes. We have one life that we must enjoy, and bring out the best of it.
Making memories, fulfilling our dreams, taking the opportunities, that’s all we can do.
Still, there are so many people who don’t take life seriously. However, we should be exceptions. Life is the most uncertain thing in this world, so we can’t just take it for granted. Remember all those horrible events that happened last year – like with the Chapecoense football team -, or way back in human life. In one moment you’re alive, but after that, anything can happen. Make sure that you don’t take any risks – just take the positive risks that don’t endanger your life and health, for instance, coming out of your comfort zone has mostly positive effects.
Never stay on the dark side of your world, and remember to be thankful, because there are always people out there who are less fortunate in their lives.
Just like Bailey, we have to enjoy the good things that happen to us, be happy and open to love.
We also learned that, well, even if our friends don’t always stay by our side these incredibly loyal creatures that are dogs, will undoubtedly do that. Their love is unconditional and endless – that’s what makes them really man’s best friends.
More to come, as I read the book!
