The “I Miss You” Playlist

Sometimes you simply need a good playlist.

During my mid-year break, I was feeling a little bit down.

Everyone was much more busier during the break compared to when there are classes, my online friends are only active when I’m asleep (because of time zones), and I’m just looking back in my life thinking “can I live every memory all over again” because I’m about to finish my studies once the upcoming semester finishes.

It was even during this time that I’ve been looking back at things that I used to be into such as kid shows I used to watch, toys I used to play, and just anything to trigger that nostalgic feeling.

We all miss some things in our lives, whether it’s people we used to hang out with or things/hobbies we used to have some sort of interest in. Due to this, I’ve made another playlist called…

*drum roll*

The “I miss you” playlist

(I’m not that really good with names)…

Here are some I recommend to put in this playlist if you ever feel sad or nostalgic.

1. Spring day – BTS

This is a really good song to start out this playlist. Just thinking about what you miss, and missing it more if you keep thinking about it. You wish you could control time to relive those moments as it was those memories that made you really happy.

Favourite lyrics:

얼마나 기다려야 [How much more do I have to wait?]
또 몇 밤을 더 새워야 [How many more nights do I have to stay up?]
널 보게 될까 (널 보게 될까) [Until I can see you? (until I can see you?)]
만나게 될까 (만나게 될까) [Until I can meet you? (until I can meet you?)]

2. Why not me – Alexander Rybak

One of my favourite Alexander Rybak songs.

You look back on your past relationships/friendship attempts figuring out why it hasn’t worked out. Why it wasn’t you who was chosen. Did you do something wrong? Was it them? Was it you? Who knows.

Favourite lyrics

You know I’m glad that you’re my friend
I hope this story never ends
But there are times I nearly cry
You make me weak I don’t know why
I know I’m not the only one
But If you’d like to have some fun
Wherever you might want to be
Just say Katherine, why not me?

3. When we’re old – Leva Zasimauskaite

I WANT TO PLAY THIS SONG IN MY WEDDING!!!

This is the perfect song to listen to when you’re thinking about your special someone. Why do they make you happy? How far have you two come to reach this moment in time? The feeling of not wanting to let them go and to have them with you for the rest of your life is just beautiful.

(Note: I cried when I saw the live performance in Eurovision)

Favourite lyrics:

Right from our very first kiss
I knew it’ll end up like this
I’m not afraid to grow old
If I have your hand to hold

4. Playmate to Jesus – Aqua

I like this song due to the idea of reaching out/being out of reach.

Yes, this is the band that performed Barbie Girl in the 90’s. Even I was surprised that they still made music till this day. I like this song due to the space imagery used, just travelling together to various planets and locations.

From my understanding after reading comments from Aqua fans, they used this song as a way to connect all the band members through music. That this song was their way of patching things up on whatever happened to them in the past.

Favourite lyrics:

I’m hearing nothing – is it me or is it you?
I keep on trying but you’re just not coming through
I see your signal but I keep on losing it
I’ll find your frequency bit by bit

5. Something just like this (ft. Coldplay) – The Chainsmokers

According to the band “Something Just Like This” is about a relationship that doesn’t need to be superhumanly perfect.

Whenever I listen to this song, I think it sums up why I enjoy being with certain people, why I believe that it’s the people you hang out with makes the date perfect rather than the activity done. It’s being in the moment, creating memories that are everlasting and will make you smile whenever you look back.

I guess that’s why it’s hard for me to forget certain moments of my life or I struggle to move on, because I had so many good memories with multiple people that I find it hard to accept that it’s all over.

Favourite lyrics

Some superhero
Some fairytale bliss
Just something I can turn to
Somebody I can miss
I want something just like this

So whether you feel nostalgic or you just want to look back on the good memories you once had, hopefully, this playlist helps you press replay on the times that made you feel happy.

Here is the Spotify playlist I made, featuring a few more songs that were not added to this list.
