Japanese video game developers, Square Enix have announced their new #PrideMascot!
In support of June being Pride Month, Square Enix have announced their own #PrideMascot. As this year, unfortunately, pride parades have been sidelined because of Covid-19, Square wanted to do something special for the LGBTQIAP+ community.
They are teaming up with the legendary artist, Toshiyuki Itahana for the project and long term fans of Square Enix will recognize Itahana’s art style from games such as Final Fantasy IX, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles as well as the Final Fantasy Trading Card game! The #PrideMascot is very cute and definitely looks like it belongs in the Final Fantasy world!
When talking about her new mascot, Itahana said;
“the character represents diversity and freedom, with its multitude of colours being the diversity aspect as well as the trainers and the wings that allow it to travel anywhere symbolising freedom. I designed this character hoping that the world can become even more free and diverse in the future!”
Square have said that “we hope you’ll embrace our new #PrideMascot together with us and what it represents.” They have also created an avatar of the mascot so that you can use it on your social media outlets too, and you can download it here!
