The ‘Spyro Reignited Trilogy’ is everything we’ve wanted (and needed)

Spyro the Dragon delighted our childhoods with his whimsy and sparky personality, and his series of games were nothing short of fun and magical. However, over time, the Spyro series fizzled out and fans were left wondering what happened to their favorite purple reptile. Now, years later in November 2018, Insomniac Games released their Spyro Reignited Trilogy and we’ve been hooked since release day.

The above trailer highlights everything wonderful about this game, which entails all three of the original Spyro games (Spyro the Dragon, Ripto’s Rage, and Year of the Dragon). With three games to play, it’s no wonder that we’re still extensively playing this game two months after release.

If you were on the fence in regard to purchasing the updated trilogy, you should watch the trailer and then take the leap of faith. The games are truly beautiful in every sense of the word. The comparisons between the original games and their updated counterparts in the trailer are stunning enough, but as you play your way through the trilogy you see just how intricate the updated designs are. Vibrant colors, vast landscapes, and smooth gameplay make this experience one you don’t want to miss out on.

After two months, we are nearly finished with the first two games and will be headed into the third, Year of the Dragon. Despite this, there are still tasks to be completed in the first two. We can go back and search for missing gems, for example, which will allow us to further explore every nook and cranny of the gorgeous world crafted by Insomniac Games.

Our ultimate verdict boils down to this: This game is more than just nostalgia fuel for those of us that grew up with Spyro as a reptilian friend. Though small experiences, such as the music or the creatures’ noises, bring forward plentiful memories, the game also holds new experiences. Unless you’ve played these games since you were a kid, you likely don’t remember everything about all three games and every level within them; because of this, there are exciting places to explore and new challenges to be faced.

We recommend this trilogy to anyone and everyone, both to those who have met Spyro and to those who have yet to explore his universe.
