The start of the new year means the inevitable return back to school, work, or wherever you go on a daily basis. After a few weeks of holiday fun and relaxation you may be dreading your daily routine. We’re here to help! Here are 5 simple ways you can spruce up your daily grind.
Take a new route
One of the easiest things you can do to make your day a little more interesting is to try taking a new route to your destination. Seeing the same scenery and people every day might get tiring, so explore and see what else is around you! This could mean driving the longer way to work, or just taking a different hallway to get to your classes. You’ll be surprised how much a small change can invigorate you and make you more excited to get to where you need to go. Plus, you might even fit in some exercise this way!
Talk to people
Another quick solution to dull days is having fresh conversations with people. There are probably people who you see every day but never talk to, maybe when you’re waiting for the bus or eating your lunch. It may feel weird at first, but strike up a friendly conversation! You already have one thing in common – being in the same place at the same time every day. Who knows, you might make a friend who you can talk to every day!
Listen to something
You probably already do this regularly, but listening to something else can help you escape the boredom of the daily grind. Music or audiobooks are instant mood boosters and perfect for a long commute to and from work or school. They can also help boost creativity or productivity for some people, so make sure you have a trusty pair of headphones available at all times!

Make time for nature
Your routine may be the same every day, but nature will be the one thing that’s always changing. Take a moment every day to appreciate one thing you see on the way to or from your destination. Maybe you never noticed that you drive by a forest with beautiful fall leaves, or you never stopped to see how pretty the sunrise is. That small moment of appreciation can ground you and take your mind off of trivial day-to-day concerns. Check out more ways you can connect to nature here!

Take it one day at a time
Thinking about the two month stretch until your next vacation is an easy way to stress you out and demotivate you. Take your life one day at a time, and everything will seem a little easier and lighter. Make a point of thinking about what you have to look forward to each day, and enjoy the moment when it comes!
Remember, it’s also ok to not do something different every day. Routines gives many people motivation and purpose. Sometimes it’s just fun to break it!
