Rita Ora announced on May 4, 2018, that her new single, “Girls,” would arrive on Friday, May 11, and the song did not disappoint upon its release.

Boasting features from Bebe Rexha, Cardi B, and Charli XCX, this song brings together four unique voices and musical styles in a successful amalgamation of female power, beauty, and love. This single follows Rita Ora’s string of singles in her return to music, and finds Cardi B’s continued success unwavering. It additionally comes one month before the release of Bebe Rexha’s debut album Expectations and juxtaposes nicely with Charli XCX’s 2017 song “Boys.”
“Sometimes I just wanna kiss girls, girls, girls,” sing Rita Ora and Charli XCX in the song’s chorus. The song champions lesbian/bisexual freedom, with the women openly proclaiming their attraction for women. “She gettin’ down with me, yeah,” the girls further sing as the song nears Cardi B’s rap verse – which does not disappoint either. Cardi slows down from the pop beat set forth by Rita, Bebe, and Charli, but her rap flow never disappoints.
All in all, this song is the collaboration we never knew we needed in 2018 but are ever glad it happened. It celebrates women and validates girls who like other girls, and is perfect for the approaching summer. We can definitely see this being a summer bop that you want to listen to while cruising with yours windows down, celebrating love, humanity, and, well, girls.
“Girls” can be streamed on Apple Music and Spotify, or bought on iTunes. To keep up to date with these stunning vocalists and role models, follow them on their social media accounts.
