With social media being a big part of how most of us find new products, you shouldn’t be shocked that I found this magical deodorant, Taos AER Next-Level Clean Deodorant, on Instagram thanks to @SarahUrie!
Now what’s the reason that I said magical you may be asking? It’s because this deodorant doesn’t contain aluminum, talc, or other toxic ingredients!
The founder of Taos AER made the switch to natural deodorant when they were diagnosed with Stage III Breast Cancer. They were suggested they stop using conventional antiperspirant and deodorant so they can support their compromised lymph system and give their body every opportunity to heal and thrive.
Not only did they thrive, they’re now helping others to thrive.
Thanks to Taos AER’s unique formula, this deodorant will work to neutralize odor at the source with its potent plant and mineral complex.
I was so happy to pick up Taos AER’s deodorant in the scent Lavender Myrrh (size 20G) because:
- I love the relaxing smell of lavender.
- I’ve been dreading putting on traditional deodorant lately.
And no, I don’t dread it because I don’t like smelling nice. The reason is because there is a lot of info online saying that traditional gel, stick, roll-on, or jar deodorants contain chemicals that can be absorbed through the skin.
Whether the claims are true or not, deodorants fight the smell under your arms by killing or blocking underarm bacteria and antiperspirants keep your armpits dry by sealing off sweat glands with aluminum salts and other compounds. Neither are good for your body.
I rather NOT take the chance if I can use something natural AND cruelty-free.
Now you might be wondering, “Why did you put on deodorants that contain chemicals if you care about it so much?” Well that’s because it has been difficult to find a natural deodorant that works. And Taos AER works. When I use this deodorant, it feels like it‘s a small part of my skincare routine or a luxury item, rather than just doing something that’s “needed” or “suggested” by society.
The gel formula glides on the skin smoothly and melts into your underarm as if your’e adding a moisturizer under your arms in a way. Thanks to the texture, you get no chalky texture under your arms after applying it.
You can of course use the applicator to rub the product in, but I also use my fingers to make sure my skin absorbs it extremely well. I noticed when I didn’t do that, it pilled up a bit. That along with using a little too much at once. But take note, it did that after 5-6 hours which is impressive after my rookie mistake. A small amount is recommended every time anyways, because it is super-concentrated and clearly a little goes a long way.
When applying the product, it should look like little beads when you twist the dial. I honestly don’t even wait till all the beads show up fully, because I ended up applying too much when I did that. By applying less, you’re getting a better application and making your product last longer.
Whether I put too little or too much product on, I found that I did not smell bad either way. For best results, you should also always use this deodorant on clean, dry skin. I applied this deodorant to clean, dry, and shaven underarms. Your experience may vary if you’re applying it differently.
If it’s really hot or you worked out a bit, you can reapply Taos AER’s deodorant if you feel like you need to. Keep note that not everyone needs to reapply this product, because it depends on your body. If you do reapply this deodorant, since it blends in so smoothly the first time, it doesn’t produce extra residue and look messy because you aren’t left with that chalky texture. I personally prefer to clean my underarm before reapplying though, if I’m able to. It isn’t hot where I live at the moment, so I tested this with a hoodie on to make sure it can handle some slightly warmer temperatures. (LOL) Although I reapplied the product for the sake of this review, I did not find myself needing to reapply it.
With nearly a decade of research and development, Taos AER’s deodorant is made of organic tapioca, cornstarch, essential oils, baking soda, sunflower oil, vitamin E, and beeswax. Due to the beeswax this isn’t vegan, but it is 100% cruelty free. And fun fact, their deodorant is the only gel-to-powder formula in the natural market!

If you’re like me and have been using conventional antiperspirants/deodorants, it may take some time for your body to adjust to a natural deodorant after years of aluminum artificially reducing your body’s ability to sweat. So when I knew I was getting this deodorant, I started preparing instantly.
Transition time is completely natural and necessary and can take anywhere from no time at all to four weeks.
Below are some tips from Taos AER to help support your body during transition time. They suggest trying any or all to help speed up the process.
- Hydrate with plenty of water to assist detoxification and flush impurities.
- Work up a sweat with your favorite workout; go for a hike, take a hot yoga class, or relax in a hot bath or sauna.
- Exfoliate your underarms. In the shower, wet skin and massage a gentle exfoliant, like a sugar scrub, to decongest build-up and slough away dead skin cells. This will help stimulate lymph movement and allow your skin to breathe.
You can purchase Taos AER Next-Level Clean Deodorant in Lavender Myrrh in two sizes, 20G ($12) and 50G ($19,) along with their other 2 scents.
I love this deodorant so much, that I already can’t wait to try the Palo Santo Blood Orange scent! I am super picky with deodorants, so I am very pleased that I can use something that is natural and cruelty-free, enjoy the formula and feel, and smell nice. Below is what each scent is targeted for:
Lavender Myrrh: Soothing, clean, and restorative.
Ginger Grapefruit: Uplifting, bright, and refreshing.
Palo Santo Blood Orange: Sweet, woody, and cleansing.
