A playlist to celebrate World Lion Day

Today is August 10, which marks World Lion Day, a day to celebrate and raise awareness of the King of the Jungle.

Lions are one of the most majestic creatures in the animal kingdom, however, their populations are sadly decreasing at an alarming rate. Threatened by things such as habitat loss, canned lion and lion bone trade, prey base depletion, and people killing lions to defend human life and livestock, these beautiful animals are at serious risk.

According to Panthera.org, “just over a century ago, there were more than 200,000 wild lions living in Africa. Today, there are only about 20,000; lions are extinct in 26 African countries and have vanished from over 90 percent of their historic range. Though lions still exist in 27 African countries and one Asian country, only seven countries are known to each contain more than 1,000 lions.”

August 10 is now recognised as a day to celebrate this wonderful animal in whatever way possible – whether that be by fundraising, spreading the word, or sharing pictures of lions in all their glory. For more information about lions and to donate to the cause, head to the official World Lion Day website.

To celebrate World Lion Day, we’ve decided to put together a roarsome playlist of all things lion for your enjoyment. Check it out below.
