On February 14th, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School suffered a tragedy that took the lives of 14 students and staff. The tragedy not only impacted the entire community in Parkland, Florida, but the entire country, as it was one of the deadliest school shootings in US history.
To help support those directly affected, a group of alumni – Aamir Rahman, Malcolm Siminovsky, Leigh Altshuler, and Kyle Smith – is collaborating with bar and restaurant Brazen Fox for a NYC Alumni Charity Event that will raise funds for the victims and families of the horrific shooting. The fundraising event will take place later today (February 19) in New York City from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Brazen Fox, located at 106 3rd Ave on the northwest corner of 13th and 3rd.
During the event, Brazen Fox will be providing their entire second floor of the bar and complimentary passed food along with a cash bar. Stoneman Douglas alumni will also be taking a suggested donation of $10 at the door for entry, but guests are welcome to provide as much (or as little) as they would like. 100% of the donation money will go towards the Broward Education Foundation’s GoFundMe page that is raising funds for the victims and families of the tragedy. There will also be a silent auction and raffle that will include tickets for various events in New York City.
“Our intention initially, was just to bring close friends together from Stoneman Douglas living in NYC during a tough time in order to raise money for those affected. What has happened has been much bigger and not what we envisioned. With that being said, we are so excited and absolutely amazed at the amount of alumni living in NYC, along with the generosity of everyone who has offered to donate or provide items to auction off on such short notice. We are really excited to be doing something to help those affected because, even though we are thousands of miles away, we always have Parkland in our hearts. Our small community has large roots across the world and we are not going away until there’s something done to avoid this happening again. Also, f*ck guns donate to Everytown as well.” – Aamir Rahman, Malcolm Siminovsky, Leigh Altshuler, and Kyle Smith
If you are in the New York City area, please consider attending the fundraising event, and if you can’t make it, you can still show your support by donating either to the Broward Education Foundation’s GoFundMe page or Everytown for Gun Safety.
