Learning to Take Me-Time

Life can be stressful.

There are things we know we have to get done that can keep us on edge for days, maybe even weeks.

Daily life can be all structured or a bit chaotic, but most likely, we all have to be on time, because otherwise we gonna miss out on the train we should be on, the tube, we end up to be too late for work, school, a meeting.

Due to such daily moments, our stress level rises, day in and day out… Until we get to the point where we just want to do one thing: spend me-time!

Of course it is lovely to spend time with friends, of course it is nice to have a party night, have a few drinks with the people you name the closest, but sometimes, even your best friend is one person too much.

Sleep

Sometimes all we need is sleep.

Some days never really end, even when you’re in bed, your phone is close to you, your mind is still alert and ready to jump onto the next drama which you see happen on your social media.

Get rid of it! Get rid of your phone, go to bed and sleep the hours you normally miss out on. We won’t be able to catch up on them, but we all feel better as soon as we slept at least 7 to 8 hours per night.

Let’s try to stick to it at least for the weekend.

Read

Book clubs or some sort of discussions about what you’re reading is a lot of fun.

Buddy reading, posting reviews on Instagram or similar social media is a big fun factor, but to get your mind off of thing?

To properly relax and get into your own headspace all that is needed is a bit of time, your favorite cozy spot and yourself. Dive into the world you’re about to discover when you open the book and forget about all the things around you.

Cinema / Theatre/ Concerts

There is this one movie you love, right?

The one movie you were waiting for it’s release date for months and all you want to do is: To rush to the cinema, order your fave sweets and a jumbo-sized popcorn and enjoy the movie!

There’s this musical, this one theatre piece you were waiting for, what feels like for ages.

Or the concert of the band you’re following for years if it’s not even your favorite band of them all is about to stop in a few weeks time in the city close to your place.

But… There it is again… Right?

This urge to immediately grab your phone and call or text your best friend!!

Because, as simple as that: When you’re going to the movies, they have to be with you! Right?

No! Of course you can ask your friends to join you for the movie, but it’s not a must!!

You are not committed to ask your friends to join you when you want to spend time alone. If they hesitate to join you for a concert, a musical or a theatre?

Get yourself a ticket, so you will have a fun day or night for sure whether they join you later on or not.

Talking A Walk

Leaving the house to get some fresh air and to take a walk is the classic thing to get your thoughts back in order.

Sometimes all it needs is a walk of 30 minutes to an hour to see the things which might had bothered you for way too long unconsciously.

It’s a motivational boost you immediately get from simply being on your own with your thoughts for a little while.

It can be a little Island in the middle of your day and get you back on track to tackle the next point on your daily ToDo-list.

Of course, it’s great to spend a lot of time with your family and friends. Enjoy it and have fun! However, don’t forget to take a little time out from time to time. And don’t you worry: You don’t have to justify a No to an activity with your friends by any means.

You don’t have to explain why you want to spend time away from them to take care of yourself and your personal needs.

Because at some point, they will be in your position and will need some Me – time just as much.

I love writing, music, especially concerts and books!
In my spare time you will find me at my favourite bookstore checking on all the new releases, at a coffee shop reading or writing my own little bits and pieces. In that time, I mostly listen to my favourite songs by McFly, 5 Seconds Of Summer, One Direction, Ed Sheeran, Green Day, The Rolling Stones or the Beatles.
And I LOVE to wear something with stripes and polka dots!
