Model and Adidas Originals brand ambassador Kendall Jenner, has been unveiled as the face of the iconic sportswear brands latest ad campaign, a collaboration with with upcoming Dutch designer Daniëlle Cathari.
Pieces from the Adidas Originals x Daniëlle Cathari Collection, were unveiled at a presentation during New York Fashion Week over the weekend, with Jenner present, modelling items from the spring/summer 2018 collection.
Sporting one of the collections black luxe tracksuits, paired with tights and open-toe Gianvito Rossi heels, Kendall posed alongside 18 other models all kitted out in Cathari’s designs.
Inspired by Jenner’s style and vibe, Daniëlle has managed to create pieces reminiscent of the original Adidas tracksuit, loved by so many in the 90’s, but has redesigned it with the female body in mind.
With overemphasised proportions, deconstruction, fresh materials and striking colour schemes the collection truly is a modern take on the classic Adidas Originals icons, Adicolor and Adibreak.
Speaking to Dazed Magazine ahead of the collections release Daniëlle said “it’s a very feminine collection that celebrates women, but it’s effortless and easy at the same time.”
“I wanted to create a blend of super 90’s silhouettes, like bodysuits with cut-outs or cargo pants, but in contemporary, neutral colours like beige and off-white… I’ve been working super hard.”
Judging by early reviews of the collection, it would appear all of that ‘super hard’ work has paid off, with fashion critics united in their praise for Cathari, her ‘innate creativity’ and her ability to turn classic Adidas pieces into ‘streetwear gold’ by mixing materials, 90s silhouettes and snap buttons.
Vogue Magazine described the collection has having an “underlying tone of luxe athleisure” and that everything about Daniëlle Cathari’s work is “right, for right now”.
While HYPEBAE notes the sharp, striped accents on the pieces are “eye-catching”, while the ‘Three Stripes insignia’ is copied along the unconventional seams of the garments, reinventing the classic coordinate.
Clearly thrilled with the response to her debut collection, Daniëlle took to Instagram writing “Yesterday was unreal! I’m so thankful to be part of the @adidasoriginals family ? #adidasOriginalsbyDanielleCathari”

23 year-old designer Daniëlle Cathari has been creating quite a buzz in the fashion world since posting several of her designs on Instagram, with critics praising her work for ‘cleverly reimagining fashion favourites, expertly deconstructing and reconstructing them in order to achieve a modern and fresh aesthetic.’
Cathari’s first break into the industry came in 2017, while still a student at Amsterdam Fashion Institute, she was chosen to participate in VFile’s Fall 2017 show.
After the collection, consisting of eight looks made of reconstituted Adidas tracksuits, was presented on the runway, Adidas made the surprising move of reaching out to Cathari and asked to collaborate.
“It’s actually a funny story because my first contact with the brand was through Instagram after I won the VFiles.” the young designer told Vogue. “They reached out to me by DM and invited me to their headquarters in Germany, and from there, it just kind of all came together.”
It was through Daniëlle’s work with the German brand where she introduced to Adidas Originals ambassador Kendall Jenner.
“When we were first introduced, we totally hit it off” Jenner said of her first meeting with Cathari.
“Our creative styles really mirror each other. The different contrasts, colors, and vintage take totally reflect my personal style… I was so inspired by her work and how she adapted such iconic pieces, making them feel totally new but still familiar.”
Heaping equal praise on her new friend and collaborator, Daniëlle has said “Kendall is someone who isn’t afraid to express her individuality, and I really respect that.”
“I see so much of my style in the way she mixes it up, and I love her sense of contrast. We have similar creative visions and how we approach personal style. It never felt like work but more like just hanging out with a friend and talking about all the stuff we love, which in this case is fashion!”
The high-profile and highly sought after Adidas Originals x Daniëlle Cathari Collection is sure to be a big hit on the street style scene, and is expected to sell out fast when it goes on sale in the UK on Saturday, February 17th, 2018.
