Born on this day in 1987…happy birthday Zac Efron!
Since rising to fame as Troy Bolton in the Disney Channel High School Musical trilogy, American star Zac Efron has gone on to become a household favourite. From period drama Me and Orson Welles to romcom That Awkward Moment, global musical sensation The Greatest Showman to biographical crime drama Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, Zac has truly proven his acting chops and is one of our most-loved names in Hollywood.
As well as being an incredible actor, Zac is a charming and humble multi-talent who’s been a constant favourite of ours over the past 14 years. It’s been incredible to witness his growth as an actor during his career so far and we feel like we’ve grown up alongside him.
In celebration of Zac’s 33rd birthday, we’ve rounded up five of the many reasons why we’ll always love him!
His acting range
For many of us, we will always associate Zac with the role of Troy Bolton, however, he has come a long way since his teen heartthrob days and has proven to be a versatile actor. Over the past few years, Zac has dominated in comedy and rom-com roles, starring in movies such as 17 Again, Bad Neighbours, That Awkward Moment, Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and Baywatch.
However, Zac truly came into his own in 2017, winning an army of new fans following his performance as Philip Carlyle in the hit musical movie The Greatest Showman. He also received critical acclaim for his supporting role in The Disaster Artist. His biggest challenge came in 2019 when he took on the role of notorious serial killer Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. Receiving critical acclaim for his chilling performance, Zac has made it clear that he is capable of taking on any role with ease.
He’s a triple-threat (and more)
As well as being an incredible actor, Zac is a triple-threat who can also dance and sing. Having flexed his vocal cords and fancy footwork in numerous films over the years, there really isn’t anything that Zac Efron can’t do. If shining on screen wasn’t enough, Zac has also been developing his skills off camera, being credited as an executive prouder on That Awkward Moment and Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. He’s also set up his own production company called Ninjas Runnin’ Wild!

His love for adventure
Outside of acting, Zac is known for being a bit of a thrill-seeker and loves going on wild adventures around the world. Last year, he launched his own YouTube channel and released a few episodes of “Off The Grid”. Filmed with his brother Dylan, the episodes showcased the pair travelling the world and getting out of their comfort zones.
Zac has also been filming a series called Killing Zac Efron for Quibi, where he’ll be going off the grid and travelling “deep into the jungles of a remote, dangerous island to carve his own name in expedition history”. The actor even ended up contracting a serious medical illness whilst filming in Papua New Guinea, but thankfully made a full recovery.
He is passionate for the environment
As well as being an adrenaline junkie, Zac has put his love for travelling to good use whilst also raising awareness of environmental issues. Earlier this year, Netflix launched a new show called Down to Earth with Zac Efron which saw the star travelling around the world in order to find more eco-friendly ways to generate food, water and energy, which are the main staples for modern life. Joined by his brother Dylan and wellness expert Darin Olien, the creative travelled to countries including Puerto Rico, Iceland, Italy, France, and London in order to search for more sustainable living practices.
He’s a beautiful human being – inside and out
On the surface, we cannot deny that Zac is a wildly attractive human being and has most definitely been a crush of ours for over 14 years. Whether he’s been sporting floppy hair, a chiselled look, platinum blonde tresses or an impressive beard, we’ve wholeheartedly adored this man through every stage of his life.
However, as well as being an obvious heartthrob, Zac is also genuine human being who remains incredibly humble despite his stratospheric levels of fame. He always comes across so well in interviews and is very respectful and complimentary towards his co-stars. He’s even super kind to his fans – he once replaced a fan’s phone after they smashed it whilst trying to meet him! Zac has the biggest heart and we couldn’t love him more if we tried.
