Halloween Films: Our 10 favourites to get you into the Spooky Spirit!

What better way to get into the Halloween spirit than a movie marathon of our favourite creepy classics…

In such uncertain times with ever-changing regulations and restrictions, it might be hard to look forward to Halloween this year. But some things never change and our handpicked Halloween films selection is sure to have you shaking in your seats! So get the popcorn ready, grab your favourite sugary treats and settle in for a perfectly spooky October!

Up first we have:

Coraline (2009)

The creepy tale of a young girl who moves into her new home, only to discover a strange door that once unlocked, leads her to a fantasy version of her own life. Coraline feels neglected by her work-obsessed parents, but in the other world she is adored by her over-loving ‘other mother’. Everything feels perfect but all is not what it seems, something sinister is afoot. This is definitely one of our favourite Halloween films!

Hocus Pocus (1993)

Let the Sanderson Sisters put a spell on you this Halloween, as the three murderous witches return to Salem to finish what they started three hundred years ago. Bette Midler shines in her extremely humorous role as a head witch, and their performance of “I Put a Spell on You” is by far the highlight of the film!

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Produced by the king of Halloween himself, this Tim Burton classic is the perfect transitional film for moving from Halloween to Christmas. Settle in for the creepy tale of Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, who becomes obsessed with Christmas. This film has it all, humor, sorrow, romance, music – all wrapped up in Burtons eerie and slightly macabre style.

The Addams Family (1991)

Introducing the Addams Family, a ghoulish clan consisting of Mother and Father, Morticia and Gomez, and their two creepy children, Wednesday and Pugsley who live happily in their creepy mansion with Grandmama and Lurch the Butler. That is until con artists hatch a plan to steal the family fortune, using an intruder to impersonate Gomez’s long-lost brother Uncle Fester! A charming story of mischief, gore, and fun!

Beetlejuice (1988)

Micheal Keaton stars as sinister ghost Beetlejuice, summoned by saying his name three times…

BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUICE, BEETLEJUICE!

After the deceased couple Adam and Barbara fail to scare away the living family that are haunting their home, they enlist the help of Beetlejuice to strike the fear they so desperately need.

Ghostbusters (1984)

If there’s something strange in your neighborhood, who you gonna call? Ghostbusters!

When three scientists lose their jobs, they start up their own business…Ghostbusters! To fight the evil spirits and ghosts plaguing the city of New York. This Halloween film is the perfect combination of horror, action, and comedy!

Corpse Bride (2005)

This Burton animation follows the tale of Victor, who, when practicing his wedding vows in a dark forest, accidentally marries skeleton bride Emily, who happily takes him back with her to the land of the dead! This touching and romantic tale is the perfect treat for an October evening and its musical score will not disappoint.

Edward Scissorhands (1990)

The fifth and final Burton film on this list, Edward Scissorhands! This is another creepy romance… After the passing of an inventor, his creation, Edward, is taken in by a kind suburban mother, Peg, where he meets her daughter Kim and here begins their love story. But after Edward is blamed for a crime he did not commit, things take a turn for the worst…

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

The classic and irreplaceable musical horror, The Rocky Horror Picture Show! After a couple is left stranded by a flat tyre, they find their selves entangled in a series of strange experiences as they stumble across a nearby castle owned by eccentric transvestite Frank N. Furter (Tim Curry). A hilarious spoof of haunted house movies with a soundtrack that is unforgettable!

Halloweentown (1998)

The Piper children are in for an adventure when magical Grandma Aggie comes to visit! When they notice her magic, they follow her on a strange bus to ‘Halloweentown’ where they must work together to defeat the dark forces that seek to take over the mortal world!
