Shawn Mendes: How he changed my life…
Over the past few years, Shawn Mendes has become a household name. His popularity and music has most definitely blown up in a huge way! Now, Shawn inspires millions of people across the world every single day. He’s changed so many people’s lives including mine.
I first found out about Shawn Mendes in early 2014. It was a Friday after school and some crap had happened and I was in my room. Vine had been around for a while back then but I had never really been interested. I heard it was full of funny little videos though and that night, I needed something to cheer me up. So, I went onto Vine for the first time and I stumbled across Shawn Mendes. His voice completely drew me in and I haven’t looked back since.
The whole thing feels so cliche now but that night was really important. Ever since, I have been a huge fan of Shawn. I feel like I’ve watched him grow up into one of the sweetest, most amazing people in the music business. His music makes me feel happy instantly. As soon as the first note of Aftertaste comes on, a smile is immediately on my face. I can’t help it.
I think another reason that I relate to Shawn so much is because we’re so similar in age. We were born roughly four months apart and that makes me feel like I can really look up to him. Not many eighteen year old’s are ready to have the commitment to their job that he does. Or would be able to keep as down to Earth as Shawn is. He just seems like such a generally lovely human being. He cares so much for his fans and his music.
In May 2016, I was lucky enough to be able to go down to London for his world tour. That night was one of the most incredible nights of my life. Even after all of this time, I still get goosebumps when I think about that night. Everything was amazing, the support act blew me away, the setlist was incredible but most of all, Shawn being there on that stage was just incredible. During Never Be Alone, I must admit tears definitely fell. That song means the absolute world to me. It’s just such a beautiful song. And, he played Aftertaste which is my absolute favourite Shawn song. At the end of the song, he came away from his microphone and just stood there and sang. The whole room was silent and it was just the most beautiful moment.
I wouldn’t be the person that I am today if it wasn’t for Shawn Mendes. I look up to him so much. He’s completely changed my life. He’s changed the way I look at things and the way I listen to music.
Shawn Mendes changed my life and I am in no way ashamed to admit that. I would be nowhere without him and one day I hope I can thank him for that in person.
