Hey guys, it’s Michele again! Last month, I talked about fandoms, and how I tend to join a new one whenever I’m very stressed because it is a means of escape. Well, guess what? I joined yet another fandom!
This past week I was on spring break, and I have had a lot of anxiety for many reasons. My glasses broke, I need to reschedule my driver’s test, and I have so many school assignments due next week. So of course, instead of doing work over break, I have been watching YouTube videos nonstop.
So…where does the title, Why am I always late? come in?
Well, imagine this. You have just joined a new fandom and you’re watching every video you possibly can about it, you research it, and learn all the group members’ names, only to find out that the group has already broken up years ago. This happened to me in the past when I discovered My Chemical Romance at the end of 2013. I know, I was extremely late to the party. It really stinks because you get so obsessed over a group, only to learn that they have already went their separate ways and are no longer releasing music together.
It’s happened to me yet again, but this time with a group of YouTubers called O2L from the YouTube channel Our2ndLife.
Of course, I’ve heard the name “O2L” before on Twitter a while back when everyone was obsessed with boy groups, but I never knew who they actually were until a few days ago when Ricky Dillon uploaded a reunion video with them. I instantly became obsessed. Although I’ve only been watching Ricky’s videos for a few weeks, he has quickly become one of my favorite YouTubers. Now thanks to him, so has the rest of O2L.
What do you do when enter a new fandom? Spend a week researching them! So that’s how I spent my spring break. Watching their YouTube videos, stalking their Instagram accounts, following them on Twitter and Snapchat, etc.
We all know the first week in joining a new fandom is always the most exciting, and I’ve just experienced it yet again.
Was there ever a time you became obsessed with a fandom only to find out that it’s already over? Make sure to tweet me at @michmendezmedia and let me know, because I can definitely relate.
See you next month.
