Everyone’s journey to becoming a better you is different. Each individual starts at a different place, at a different point in time, under different circumstances. But one similarity is that we’ll all striving to achieve a similar thing. Bettering yourself is different for everyone; some may want to become more open minded, some may want to learn more, it could be anything, no matter how big or small.
However, the journey some, or perhaps all of us, possibly without realising, embarks on, can be challenging. Where do you start? What do you do? How do you know where you want to better you? These are some of the questions I’m finding myself asking when I think of becoming a better me.
I don’t want to wholly change myself but build on the person I already am, and maybe tweak some things here and there. These aren’t person-changing things, though. I find that they’re quite simple things but how to go about them and feel more content with myself is what I’m, personally, finding difficult to achieve.
For example, I’d like to learn how to control my anger or my emotions in general, and act nicer and kinder towards others. Balancing my emotions is something I feel I’ve been struggling with for a while. They can sometimes overcome me and make me act completely irrationally to the way I’d act normally. It can be difficult to establish, sometimes, if this is just who I am. Regardless, I’m aware of this part of me I’d like to be different and think would make me a better person. I’m just not entirely sure how to go about it.
I don’t want to completely eradicate the emotions I face, but just learn how to control them. A friend has suggested making a diary of my daily emotions, through an app or through writing notes either on my phone or in a journal. This may be the first step to becoming a better me. I just need to get started on working on it.
This is just one example but there are some others I can think of in how I’d like to better myself. Most of them rooting learning, understanding and balance. There’s a part of me that believes everything is a learning experience. If you make a mistake, you can learn and grow from it. If you don’t make a mistake, you can still learn and grow from it.
As mentioned in the beginning, everyone’s journey to becoming a better you is different. It may perhaps be that we just learn as we go along in life and that it isn’t so proactive. Or maybe it’s proactive for some, combined with learning through whatever life throws at us. Whatever way it is, I really do want to become a better me. I’m sure I’ll figure it out somehow, just need a little bit of faith.
