So, 2018, here we are.
A few years ago it was impossible to thing that 2018 was going to be a thing yet here we are. In February. Finally. January felt like it went on forever. I’m sorry I haven’t spoken to you for so long. January was a busy month between coming back to uni, gigs and Disneyland. So, today, in February, I thought I’d talk a little bit about my goals for the year.
Finish my Goodreads challenge.
Goodreads is an app I only got into last year but now, I absolutely love it. I’ve been reading since I was a small child and Goodreads is such a good way to keep track of your reading. Last year, my Goodreads goal was 50 books which I reached. This year, I’m going a little further with 100. I’m already on 27 so it’s going pretty well so far. But, as I do every year, I know that I’ll hit a few reading slumps on the way so I just hope I can keep it up.
Reading is a big form of escapism for me and I’m happy to always have a book with me. My current read is Call Me By Your Name, which I’ve heard amazing things about so I’m looking forward to finishing it.
Settle Into My New University.
As I mentioned, I think, a couple months ago, I’m changing universities. I moved to Lincoln in September for university and I’ve just never been settled here. I have a couple friends here but I’ve never been 100% happy. Journalism is my passion I know that for a fact. I’ve been in love with journalism for a very long time. So, I know that going somewhere else, close to home, is where I need to be.
University is a very big step for somebody and I guess I just wasn’t ready to take it. I’m not ashamed to say that and I’m not ashamed to say I’m not entirely happy. Everybody is different and different environments suit different people. You just need to find your place and Lincoln isn’t mine.
Take Care of Myself More.
Self care is such an important thing. You should always take the time to look after yourself and do something you love. For example, I take time at least once a week to not do work and just chill out. I have an extra long shower, watch Glee, read and just chill out. Everybody should take an evening every week to just have a bit of a chill out.
At the end of the day, you are the most important person in your life. So, you need to take care of yourself. I’ve been started on some new medication which is me taking steps to carry on taking care of my own mental health. And, I want to continue taking those steps and just make myself feel a little bit more like myself.
So, those are my three main 2018 goals. I have a couple others too but small ones. I’m also hoping to keep in contact with you every month this year. I have some ideas for my upcoming monthly blogs which I’m looking forward to.
