Getting back into reading can be a difficult thing to do when you haven’t done it for so long. It can be increasingly difficult when you’ve somehow lost any sort of concentration you once had along the way.
I haven’t read a book, properly, in a few years now. I used to read a lot in school but once I started college nearly two years ago, the workload became heavier and somewhat more important, which made it difficult for me to find the energy to read. During college, I did read the first few volumes of the manga Death Note. Even that was a struggle in some sorts (I’m only at about volume 4, so far).
Despite this, I’m determined to find the spirit I once had for reading! I’ve picked up a few books over the past two years but it’s just getting round to reading them. There are around four or five books I’ve started and not yet finished – it’s a bad habit I need to shake.
One series I’ve always wanted to read is the graphic novel The Walking Dead. I love the TV series adapted from it and so far I’ve read the first two volumes! I’ve found it’s been a good way to get me back into reading since it’s not a full on novel with a bazillion words. It’s slightly easier to read because of that reason and doesn’t require as much concentration but it’s still incredible.
Following this, I’ve recently started reading Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz and I’m really enjoying it so far. It’s not difficult to follow and the chapters are fairly short which is perfect for me at the moment. However, I’m not even 100 pages in yet, oops! I’m excited to read and finish more books in the future as I feel like the more I read, the more I’ll learn. Especially since I’d like to start reading more books that are subject-specific rather than just fiction.
It’s probably going to take me a long while to actually finish a book but I know I’ll get there.
