Fuzz Fact Fridays: #2

We’re back to supply you with your weekly dose of random trivia knowledge. When were planes invented? What weird things do butterflies do? What’s Gigi Hadid’s real name? Well, don’t be fretting, Fuzz Fact Friday is here to make sure you’re prepped to win any pub quiz.

1. Beauty and the Beast (1991) was the first animated film to ever be nominated for a ‘Best Picture’ Oscar.

Beauty and the Beast was beaten by a horror film

Unfortunately, the animation was beaten by horror The Silence of the Lambs (1991). Animated movies Up (2009) and Toy Story 3 (2010) have also received nominations for this category.

2. Butterflies smell with their feet.

This fact scares me

That’s just fucking weird.

3. Who is Jelena Noura Hadid?

Jelena who now?

Like many celebs, Gigi Hadid doesn’t go by her real name. The American fashion model was actually born and named Jelena Noura Hadid but uses the nickname her mother Yolanda gave her. Yolanda had previously been callled Gigi by her own mother.

4. We are usually 1-2cm taller in the morning than the evening.

Can't we be tall all day, every day??

There’s actually a scientific reason for this so prepare your brains. Apparently throughout the day, the cartilage in our spine, knees and other joints slowly compress as we carry out activities. Gravity also lends a helping hand, adding additional pressure by pushing everything down. But when we (eventually) get to relax and go to bed, it eases this pressure on the spine and cartilage, so when we wake up no joints are compacted so we appear taller.

5. In 1903, American brothers Wilbur and Orville Wright built the first powered aeroplane.

Queen Brit here to share them fun plane facts

The plane only flew for 12 seconds and covered 120 feet while at Kitty Hawk. This success followed on from the no-engine glider the brothers designed and flew the year previous. It’s safe to say the aeroplanes have certainly come a long way in just over 100 years as it is now possible to fly faster than the speed of sound.
