Fuzz Fact Friday: #11

We’re back to supply you with fact after fact, so sit back and waste the next five minutes of your life with us.

1. It’s impossible to breathe in through your nose and talk at the same time

Fact: You can't inhale through your nose while talking

Go on, give it a go. It’d be a miracle if you manage to do it.

2. Elephants have the longest pregnancies of all mammals

While human pregnancy lasts an average of 280 days (40 weeks), for elephants the gestation period lasts between 640 to 660 days (95 weeks). That means elephants carry their babies for for more than a year and a half. Yikes… rather you than me.

3. The Nike “Swoosh” logo cost $35 to create

In 1971, Phil Knight, the co-founder and chairman emeritus of Nike, gave a $35 check to graphic designer Carolyn Davidson to create the famous tick logo. Knight had approached Davidson in the hallway of PSU where he taught and she studied, stating he would pay her $2 per hour. But nowadays, Nike as a brand is worth over $15.9 billion.

4. Bones make up around 15% of a person’s total body weight.

Meaning you can probably do maths things to work out what percentage of your body mass is your skeleton.

5. A cricket’s ears are on its front legs

Just when you thought bugs couldn’t get any weirder, crickets have little openings just below the knees that act as ears.
