We want to provide you with a reason to be able to take a break from your busy day and revel in our crush’s’ greatness. In this edition, we will be talking about the lead rapper of BTS – Min Yoongi.
Who is Min Yoongi?
Min Yoongi is a member of the South Korean boy group BTS. He is the group’s lead rapper and is also one of their songwriters and record producers. He originally joined Big Hit Entertainment, their agency, as a music producer, but he debuted as a member in the year 2013. He was also one of the first members of the group.
Why is Yoongi Our Crush?
People often get the impression that Yoongi is a cold-hearted, lazy guy. But he is the complete opposite. We’ll list down some reasons why Yoongi is our Fuzzable Crush, and how this disproves people’s first impressions.
He spits fire whenever he raps
Yoongi is the group’s lead rapper for a reason. Some underground rappers in Korea claim that Korean idols are not real rappers. Yoongi, however, proves them wrong. Just by listening to his verses in BTS’ Cypher series, one can say that Yoongi’s rapping abilities are never to be underestimated. He ranked 11th in the list of fastest rappers in Korea and was part of the top three as the fastest idol rapper. Yoongi also used to be part of the underground rap scene with the stage name Gloss, and was also part of a hip-hop crew D-Town, where he created and performed numerous rapping acts. His passion for rapping radiates whenever he is performing on stage.
Yoongi has created songs even outside the BTS sphere, with his two mixtapes Agust D and D-2. People praised his rapping skills in those two mixtapes as both breaks record in Korean and international music scene. He was also featured as a rapper in other artists’ songs as well.
Putting his energy into rapping whenever he’s on stage, Yoongi showcases his talent and dedication for rapping. And viewers can definitely feel the heat from the fire Yoongi spits whenever he raps!
He writes and produces songs
Yoongi also writes and produces BTS songs. The Korea Music Copyright Association credited over 70 registered songs under his name. These songs include “First Love,” “Trivia: Seesaw,” and “Interlude: Shadow.” He began writing songs and working with synthesizers at the age of 13 and worked part-time at a recording studio to learn more about producing. These facts show his hardworking attitude towards music.
He is vocal about his personal beliefs
It’s no secret that Yoongi has experienced depression and social phobia. He has spoken openly about mental health as well as on other societal issues. He said once in an interview with Billboard,
“If we don’t talk about these issues, who will?” continues Suga. “Our parents? Adults? So isn’t it up to us? That’s the kind of conversations we have [in the band]: Who knows best and can talk about the difficulty our generation faces? It’s us.”
In his song “The Last” on the Agust D mixtape, Yoongi used dramatic beats and various rap techniques to narrate how his soul was consumed by depression, obsession, and self-hatred toward pursuing his dream to be a musician in Seoul. “The Last” was an intimate song where he bared his mental health experiences, something which only a number of artists can do.
During their interview with Billboard, Yoongi also did not hesitate to voice out his opinion on gay rights. “There’s nothing wrong. Everyone is equal,” he says. It’s rare for K-pop artists to show their support to the LGBTQ+ community, and Yoongi outright explained where he stands.
He is savage in a funny way
ARMY would know that among the seven members, Yoongi is the most savage. It’s hilarious how blatant and nonchalant he can be. He manages to make people laugh with this trait. Our favorite would be when his fellow member Seokjin shows off his looks and Yoongi blatantly said, “It just looked like your eyes hurt from the sun, and then you went into the shade.” Another favorite of ours is when member Taehyung was staring at a tablet and Yoongi suddenly said, “This is what we call the 21st century’s newest technology.” There are a lot more moments where Yoongi displayed his savage and funny side to the BTS members, and we at Fuzzable love every bit of it.
He is also a caring person
Yoongi may be a savage guy, but deep down he cares for his fellow BTS members, ARMY, and the people he is closed to. He genuinely supports people in their endeavors even if he may not show it. He handwrote 300 notes for ARMY to give back to them on his birthday. These notes also included snacks. During fan meets, he talks more about a person’s personality than appearance, telling ARMY that they should stay just the way they are. He also shows his caring side to the members. He spent New Year’s Eve with member Hoseok instead of his family and friends so that Hoseok wouldn’t be alone. Yoongi may be savage, but he is also sweet.
