Well, let’s be honest: Books are always a matter of taste.
Especially, in the case of re- tellings!
Some like them – some may not.
Some re-tellings are amazing – some not so much.
But they are always worth a try.
You might discover a side on your favorite story you never thought about before! Or, you might even discover a new favorite you didn’t know before at all!
Over the last few years, some amazing re-tellings showed up and Fuzzable wants to share some of their favorites with you!
In the tetralogy by Danielle Paige containing Dorothy Must Die, The Wicked Will Rise, Yellow Brick War and The End Of Oz, we gonna walk down the Yellow Brick Road back to Oz.
However, it is not the Oz we might remember from the book Frank L. Baum wrote or the movie, starring Judy Garland singing ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow.
It’s not the universe where we meet little Dorothy, which got swept away in her aunt’s and uncle’s house by the power of a hurricane.
This time, we rediscover Oz alongside Amy Gumm, the other girl from Kansas.
The outcast at school, the girl with the addicted mother, the girl who wants nothing more than to get away from the trailer park she lives in.
As a hurricane swept her and the trailer she’s in alone to another country, another planet, Amy feels like she was given a chance for a new start.
As she realized WHERE she ended up, NOTHING is as she knows in this so famous movie she grew up watching.
Amy meet punk rock Munchkins, she has to learn that everything she believes in is wrong at the first place.
She has to step up and fight not just for herself – she has to do it for a bigger cause.
She has to learn to believe and practice magic.
Amy is the other girl from the Other Place.
She seems to have abilities no one all around Oz seems to be capable of off.
In this tetralogy we learn alongside Amy, what is means to fight, to lose, to love, to trust and to get ready for a battle, no one knows how it will end.
The two things you have to remember when you pick up this amazing series are:
Oz changed, it changed so much that the lion, the scarecrow and the tinman turned into brutal creatures, only following the queen’s orders.
No. 2: The good is wicked and the wicked is the force, which tries to stop the evil queen.
The queen, which came back, years after she made it home to Kansas.
The 1st girl from the Other Place, which decided Oz would be her kingdom and she would to re-build her life and reign this magical place the way she wants. All to her own good to such an extent that she ends up to be the most frightening person in all of Oz.
The evil queen called Dorothy Gale.
