Hello, and welcome back to Fuzzable! Last year I asked my younger sister who loves BTS to give me five of her favorite songs from the group to react to, and this year I’m back to react to her other favorite K-Pop group: BLACKPINK! I’ve only ever heard the BLACKPINK stars in Dua Lipa’s “Kiss and Make Up,” so I’m intrigued to hear their solo music! My sister has given me another handful of songs, and I’m going to give my honest first reactions below!
1. Boombayah
After watching the music video for this song, I can see why my sister chose this as the first song to listen to. Everything seems to tie together nicely in this video: the music and the singers’ voices are hypnotic, the choreography is entrancing, and the video creates an aesthetic experience. I would definitely listen to this song again!
2. Playing with Fire
Now onto “Playing with Fire.” This track is really beautiful. I enjoy the change in pace from the previous song, and with this track, I can vividly seeing myself listening to this on a late night drive or on a hopeful night alone at home. The music video seemed cliche at times, but the song itself is really nice and my favorite so far!
3. Stay
If I thought the last track was beautiful, then this track must be gorgeous. “Stay” is moving and relatable and honestly something I could see playing on American radio stations. Who isn’t a sucker for guitar ballads? Despite loving the sound, though, I think “Playing with Fire” still has my heart as my favorite.
4. Really
An upbeat pop song is what I’m legitimately a sucker for. It’s not my favorite so far (I think “Playing with Fire” still holds that title), but it’s definitely good. I could see myself playing this while working on homework or writing and just swaying and bopping with it.
5. DDU DU DDU DU
This song is surprising in a number of ways. At first glance, I thought it was going to be too similar to “Boombayah”; however, I quickly realized they are different in the best ways. This song has an angelic chorus and impressive rap verses that flow together in perfect synchronization.
Overall, I actually really enjoyed these songs – and I think I may have liked them more than I did the BTS songs I reacted to last year! If I had to rank them, it would go something like this:
- “Playing with Fire”
- “DDU DU DDU DU”
- “Stay”
- “Really”
- “Boombayah”
Despite ranking inherently meaning one must be first and one must be on the bottom of the list, none of these songs were bad and I will definitely be downloading them.
