ASOS DESIGN X LAQUAN SMITH

The collaboration EVERYBODY’S talking about is here…

New York designer LaQuan Smith has teamed up with British online fashion retailer ASOS to create an uncompromising, all-inclusive unisex range that has the fashion world TALKING.

Glamorous, vivacious and fearless, the collection packs punch – with its offering of bold prints, faux fur (tops), mesh bodysuits, chain bracelets, camo boots and beaded crystal pieces.

Inspired by the ‘different moods’ of night-life, the collaboration captures and echoes the same luxe, ultra-femme aesthetic of Smith’s namesake collection, which, fused together with the ASOS brand, transpires to create a diverse, no holds barred range; perfect for fun, bold, sexy men and women who are unabashed and unafraid to stand out.

“I’ve had the creative freedom to do anything I want.” LaQuan tells ASOS Magazine.

“The categories are incredible – I’ve always dreamt of doing shoes, bags, belts, glasses and socks. So many men are like, ‘You gotta do something for us’ and this is a great platform.”

The ASOS DESIGN X LAQUAN SMITH collection is an unapologetic form of self-expression, which feels nothing but authentic; staying true to Smith’s unique and original vision yet encapsulating a sense of accessibility, which appeals directly to ASOS’s target demographic.

“There are a lot of people out there who are huge fans of my clothes that might not be able to afford my collections, so I thought that this was just a perfect union between LaQuan Smith and ASOS.”

In contrast to previous fashion house / brand collaborations, ASOS and Smith’s collection features familiar designs and silhouettes seen in some of LaQuan’s earlier work, along with more accessible versions of pieces worn by some of Hollywood’s elite… case in point the recreation of the custom black and silver bodycon dress famously worn by Beyoncé at the Sports Illustrated Awards in 2017.

However for those who may not be quite as fearless in their fashion choices, but still in awe of LaQuan’s designs, the line does feature some more casual, cool-girl essential pieces from camo-print joggers to faux fur hoodies to crystal embellished durags, as well as some ‘of the moment trends’ like biker shorts, leopard motifs and narrow sunglasses.

It should also be noted, and applauded, that each piece in the collection is created in extended sizes for ASOS Curve and ASOS Plus customers.

“I feel that I need to embody the word inclusivity and diversity. We always talk about that and this is a moment in time to be able to celebrate that.”

Together LaQuan Smith and ASOS have created a movement and a collection that people can feel a part of. It is uniting, inclusive and full of unique, bold pieces that easily translate from daywear to nightwear.

Since its formal debut in 2013, the LaQuan Smith brand has gained acclaim for its endless archive of distinctive garments and details, boosting a dynamic private order clientele which spans the globe from Lagos to London.

Smith’s unapologetically glamorous aesthetic has also been tapped by world recognised brands including Heineken, Tidal, Samsung, Microsoft, and Verizon, for Smith directed activations.
