For someone who spends most of her time with books and computers, YouTube is like a survival capsule. While my major browsing activity revolves mostly around music, there are days when I accidentally find some great content on the platform. Varying in terms of range and topic, these videos serve three purposes:
- Make me happy
- Enlighten me
- Educate me about ways for improving my life
So today, I will be sharing 6 such videos that I came across “by accident”. Hope they treat you the way they treated me:
CATEGORY 1: MAKE ME HAPPY
An artist is also a fan of someone. Be it Camila Cabello, BTS, One Direction or any other artists, each one of them have got their idols who they admire.
On a regular day, a passionate street performer was entertaining his audience with music he liked. He was singing “No Matter Where” but didn’t know that just after few minutes he would encounter something unprecedented. The vocalist from MC the Max to whom the song belonged came out and joined the performer. The performance reached a completely different level and garnered attention from passersby and online viewers.
In this video, you will get to see how does it feel when one’s dream of meeting their idols comes true.
Art is part of an artist’s body, mind and soul. A trigger is all that is required to awaken his or her soul. When a ballerina came across a street musician, her body could not help but pay attention and respond to the melodies that were coming out of musician’s instrument.
On her father’s encouragement (which was one of my favorite bits from the video), the girl threw away her slippers and took on the street to showcase her talent. Every move of her complemented musician’s note and melody. It’s really fun to be a part of such spectacle.
CATEGORY 2: ENLIGHTEN ME
We all are conditioned to accept a few things as normal including marriage and becoming a parent. When one refuses to take up these roles, especially a woman, one is not just reprimanded but also humiliated.
But let’s be honest. Not everyone likes taking the responsibility of a kid. In this video, Christen Reighter shares her story of seeking sterilization and talks about the obstacles she faced, not just from the society but also from the medical fraternity.
I am a huge fan of Hayao Miyazaki and YouTube knows it quite well. When I finished watching Miyazaki” documentary, I came across an interesting video.
Spirited Away is an animated movie by Miyazaki that falls under the genre of bildungsroman. Released in 2001, the movie showcase the journey of a girl named Chihiro who sets on a quest to discover her “identity”.
This video by “Is This Just Fantasy?” talks about the theme of “identity” and “consumption” in Spirited Away. The manner in which the author of this video has deconstructed the movie to put forth her argument is worth noting.

CATEGORY 3: EDUCATE ME ABOUT WAYS FOR IMPROVING MY LIFE
Organization is a tricky subject. While everyone wants their life to be organized, they often struggle with ways to achieve their goal.
Recently, I came across a video that talked about Konmari Method by Marie Kondo. As per the definition stated on the website,
“The KonMari Method™ is a way of life and a state of mind that encourages cherishing the things that spark joy in people’s lives.”
The basic premise behind Kondo’s method is to identify things or belongings that actually contribute to one’s life. Once the objects stop serving their purpose, they must be thanked for their service and discarded.
Thankfully, I found a demonstration video which showcased how Kondo actually applies her method:
There was a time when job options were limited. But today, new jobs and job functions are created every day. While it ensures one of experimentation, the plethora of choices also makes one anxious. The reason being that today, people are not looking for just financial freedom but also “fulfillment” in terms of their lifestyle which includes both physical and mental well being.
This video by “The School of Life” talks about the idea of “fulfillment” and how one can achieve it by overcoming choice paralysis.
