Music is enlightening. It has the power to take you to the very core of your consciousness. As you blast your ears with the soft lyrics, heavy strumming, and voluminous piano sounds, you transcend to the world where you are face to face with your raw self, the untainted version that knows everything about you.
But not all songs and compositions serve the purpose. There are some that provide “relief”, some that send you good “vibes” but then, there are others that teach you a lesson about life. These special songs are like dialogues that help you begin a conversation with yourself.
For the past few years, I have come across various songs who lyrics have made me stop and look at the wall. One line is all it requires to make you think and some songs have been able to do that.
So, today, I will share with you five lines from 5 different songs that are as good as life lessons. Check them out below:
Viva La Vida by Coldplay
Next, the walls were closed on me
And I discovered that my castles stand
Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand
The song has references from French Revolution but it talks about a bigger picture. The song especially the lines given above tell you how destructive our ego is. Castles here personifies power and ego and as we know it from the experience, both the entities are fragile. One push is required to bring them down.
So, the life lesson is Stay Humble and try and keep a distance from your ego.
Let It Go by James Bay
I used to recognize myself
It’s funny how reflections change
When we’re becoming something else
I think it’s time to walk away
Relationships change people drastically. A good relationship helps a person become compassionate and considerate but a bad relationship steals one of his/her identity. When you are not able to be your own self for the “sake of your love”, you are not in a relationship but a trap. When you reach that point, it’s time to walk away. That’s what these lines tell us.
So, the life lesson is Love someone who can help your “self” bloom and not let it wither away.
Lost Stars by Adam Levine
It’s hunting season and the lambs are on the run
Searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?
Woe is me if we’re not careful turns into reality
Sign of the Times by Harry Styles
You can’t bribe the door on your way to the sky
You look pretty good down here
But you ain’t really good
This song might be recent but it speaks a lot about human nature. Harry has been able to successfully touch about the grim reality of our existence. While the time might not be the most favorable one, it does not mean that you don’t have a chance of survival. The only condition is that there are no shortcuts to living a happy life. You really can’t bribe the door. It might help in the short term but in long term, it just contributes to your suffering.
So, the life lesson is Work hard and try to be helpful to others. You might end up living your dream life.
A-Team by Ed Sheeran
And go mad for a couple grams
