5 Ingredients to Use More This Spring!

Springtime is thankfully just around the corner with today being the first of March, so those of us at Fuzzable have just one thing on our minds: which ingredients will we utilize this spring? Seasonal cooking – that is, using what’s in season to bring the freshest taste to your cuisine – is the smartest way to cook, so let’s get into what we think should be some of the go-to ingredients this spring.

1. Citrus

Maybe it’s just us, but one of our favorite ingredients – well, group rather – is citrus. We love it not only for its vibrant colors and playfulness, but also for its versatility. Lemons, limes, grapefruits, and even oranges showcase this versatility. This spring try using citrus in ways you may not have before. Grill lemons, use grapefruits in marinades, zest limes into anything and everything. Experiment!

2. Mint

The second ingredient is one of our favorites. We love mint in our drinks, but this spring we want to try new applications for this special green. Other herbs, such as parsley and rosemary, usually take center stage in savory preparations, but this year we’re going all-in with mint. We’re going to try applications in pasta and various meat dishes, for example.

3. Peppers

It’s the year of spice, right? Whether you want to employ spicy or sweet notes into a dish, you cannot go wrong with the addition of peppers. You can grill them to eat by themselves, thinly chop them into marinades or cooked dishes, or add them to chocolate cookies and cakes for a surprise kick. Similarly, if you do not have peppers, you can easily add a layer of flavor with chili powder (one of our favorite spices ever).

4. Honey

At second to the bottom of the list, we have honey. This sweet nectar is underutilized if you ask us. It can be used in savory applications as well as sweet ones. Round out your salad dressings, sweeten your chicken and waffles, or use in a marinade alongside citrus for a perfect balance of flavor.

5. Ginger

Finally, we round out this list with ginger: a royal member of the spice kingdom if you ask us. Ginger can be used in both sweet and savory cooking and can be extra delicious when paired with honey or citrus. Use with chicken for a delicious chicken salad, or use in cakes or other confections for a special zestiness.

Though these aren’t the most groundbreaking ingredients to discuss, they are some that we think will accent this springtime excellently. They are also all ones that can be combined in numerous ways to create a diverse amount of dishes.
