Buying someone a gift can be difficult, especially when you want it to be special. We’ve compiled a list of 10 unique gift ideas, ranging from pillows to origami! There’ll be something for everyone.
1. Origami
Don’t underestimate the power of paper! Origami can be a great gift. You could make it yourself, ask a friend or buy it. Origami can tailor to anyone’s likes, too. You can get creative with it. For example, for Christmas, my sister bought me a jar filled with origami stars. Each individual star has lyrics to two of my favourite songs on it.
2. Custom pillow
Just like origami, a custom pillow can tailor to anyone’s likes as well! If they’re a fan of a TV show, you could print a photo of the characters onto it, or even stitch the TV show name on. This is something where you can let your creativity flow.
3. Audio waveform print
There are many places on the internet where you can submit audio to be processed so the audio waveform is then in the format of a printed image. This can be a special gift for someone who is a fan of music, for example. If you know their favourite song or favourite lyric, you could submit that bit of audio to become a printed image.
4. Lokai bracelet
Any bracelet would make a unique gift but a Lokai bracelet can hold a different meaning. They’re made with water from Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth, and mud from the Black Sea, the lowest point on Earth. The bracelet holds a reminder of balance; that sometimes you’re on top of the world but need to stay humble, and sometimes you’re at a low point, so you need to stay hopeful. It could make as a nice gift idea to show that you’re thinking of someone through their highs and lows.
5. Embroidery
Embroidery can come in many forms: a shirt, hoop wall art, a bag… You name it, someone’s probably made it! Etsy could be your best place for this if you can’t make it yourself and don’t know anyone who could make it for you. Just add a quick “embroidery” to the end of your search, e.g. the x files embroidery, and embroidered products might start appearing.
6. Custom chocolate
It may sound strange but custom chocolate is a thing. There’s a whole range of things you could do with this. There’s the option to print your own photos onto the chocolate, have writing engraved into the chocolate and even have a custom chocolate mould (we’ve seen game console controllers and tools made out of chocolate before!).
7. Photo prints
There are so many different photo printing applications and websites around these days, and even some local supermarkets have photo printing machines. In the past, I’ve printed simple 6x4cm glossy photos to stick on my wall. Some photo printing apps offer borders, effects and even writing. Depending on what you want, you might have to experiment with different sites and apps to find what one does what you’re looking for, in terms of size, etc.
8. Make them a playlist
Making someone a playlist will always be special, whether they’re a friend, a family member or a partner, it’ll always be a sweet idea. You could come up with a general theme and gather a selection of 20 or 30 songs for a personalised playlist.
9. Engraved jewellery
If the person you’re buying a gift for loves jewellery, why not get a special phrase engraved onto it? Many companies and online websites offer letter engraving onto bracelets, rings, necklaces, etc. so you can make the jewellery that little bit more personal.
10. Merchandise specific to their likes
This may not exactly be the most unique in this list but it still stands. Anyone would be grateful to receive merchandise for something they specifically enjoy. For example, a bottle of Butterbeer like from Harry Potter, or bath salts that look like what is made in Breaking Bad. The gift will still show that you’re thinking of something they like and going out of your way to look into the specific items of whatever it is.
