Strictly Come Dancing is back on our screens soon, with a star-studded cast and a judging panel of experts, it’s already shaping up to be the best series yet. This morning (14th August 2018)on BBC Radio One it was announced that one of our favorite YouTube stars Joe Sugg has joined the lineup. Already social media has been going crazy over this news, with mixed opinions of Joe’s place within the show, so we figured we’d break down the 10 reasons we think Joe will be the perfect contestant.
The Content.
This may be the most obvious reason for Strictly fans to be excited about Joe’s signing but we’re extremely excited for Joe to show in his Vlogs (ThatcherJoeVlogs) exactly what goes on to prepare for the live shows. Let’s hope Joe shows us where the sequin magic really comes from.
His Showbiz Pals
It will go without saying that Joe’s sister Zoella will be one of Joe’s most proud cheerleaders, but with Jack and Conor Maynard, Caspar Lee, KSI and Jim Chapman all in Joe’s close knit of friends the camera panning around to the audience will be a highlight for us all.
His Impressions.
If you’ve never watched a video of ThatcherJoe’s then you’ll not be aware of his hillarious ad uncanny impressions. Joe’s amassed 20 million views on his impression collab with Conor Maynard, so we can’t wait to see his impression of Craig’s nasty side.
Charity
Joe is the first person to sign up for any charity event. From joining a boyband for Red Nose Day to being heavily involved in Stand Up To Cancer’s internet event -Joe just loves having fun for a great cause. He recently joined Prince Charles in a spot of roof thatching for The Princes Trust.
Eye Candy.
Aside from Joe’s buddies all being easy on the eyes, Joe is too. We recently posted A ‘Crush Alert’ on Mr. Sugg, check it out here to see exactly what we’ll be treated to every Saturday night.
Positive Attitude.
To compete in any sport, having a positive mental attitude will help you get far. There aren’t many media faces who are able to keep a smiling face as much as Joe Sugg, so we know he’ll always see a silver lining with any situation on the show.
He’s flexible.
Remember the ‘couples yoga challenge’ that went around YouTube a while back? Joe completed it several times with several partners, and every time Joe was small and light enough to get into a variety of poses. We’re sure if needed he’ll be up for being the liftee in dance lift s.
Growing as a Dancer.
The greatest winners on Strictly have all been those with little to no dance training previously. Viewers love a journey and always vote to save those who improve week after week. Joe is a pretty bad dancer, so his partners got their work cut out for themselves already, but it will be worth it in the end.
Bringing Internet Celebs into Mainstream media.
In mainstream media, the world seems to be 20 years behind on pop culture. Despite platforms like Vine giving the world Shawn Mendes, reporters and editors are still not seeing the next generation of superstars. The world is quick to report when “YouTubers Do Bad” (Jack Maynard’s old tweets exposed on I’m a Celeb’ and Logan Paul’s incidents) so having someone as loving and funny as Joe at the forefront of TV can only make positive movements.
Expansion of Audience.
Predominantly Strictly Come Dancing has an older audience then XFactor, videos on XFactors YouTube page each get millions of views, and SCD is always lagging behind. Getting someone on the show whose audience is in the millions week after week is going to boost ratings no end, especially when a large part of that audience is aged between 13-18. Hopefully, some of these views will love the show so much that they’ll watch every series from here on.
Make sure you catch Joe and the rest of the Strictly class of 2018 this September on BBC One.
