It’s always fun playing games with friends, whether that be board games or card games, or online games! It’s one of our favourite things to do and there’s no doubt it’s going to be a good time. It can be difficult to choose what to play when you’re with your pals, which is why we’ve put together a list of 10 games on Steam perfect for those opportunities!
1. Quiplash
Quiplash is a “say anything” game. You can play it with your friends, your family, pretty much anyone, and it’s super simple! No controllers are needed for this one, as you only need to use your phone or tablet. Each player will be given a prompt in which you type out your own answer to and then submit it. At the end of each round, your answer will go up against another player in a battle to see who gets the most votes. There are no right or wrong answers here, either, meaning you can let your wits and imagination run wild. Quiplash is for 3 – 8 players, but if you have more than that in your group, they can be an active member of the audience who has the ability to affect the vote.
2. Dead by Daylight
Dead by Daylight is a survival horror game, where you can either play as a survivor or the killer. Being stealthy and smart in your actions is key to your role as a survivor. As a survivor, you see the world in a third-person view, whereas the killer sees the world in a first-person view. There are a range of different killers, each with their own special powers to help them catch and hook survivors. There are two modes when playing with friends: survive with friends, where up to four friends can join a game together against a random killer, or kill your friends, where 2 to 5 friends can team up and play matches amongst themselves.
3. BattleBlock Theater
BattleBlock Theater is a platform game with a comedic style. This game is able to be played alone, but it’s always better with friends, so a co-op option is available. The player has to run, jump and punch their way through the levels, collecting gems and other goodies along the way. In co-op mode, you have to work together to tackle obstacles. This includes throwing each other across gaps and using each other’s heads as platforms.
4. PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is an online multiplayer battle royale video game. Up to 100 players are parachuted onto an island where they have to scavenge for weapons and equipment. It’s a last man standing game in which players fight it out to be the last one or last team alive in order to win. As the match goes on, the safe area in the world decreases, forcing players into a smaller area to initiate more interactions. It can be played solo or within a small team of four people.
5. Garry’s Mod
Garry’s Mod is a sandbox, or open world, physics game. Although it’s classed as a full game, it doesn’t have any set objectives or aims. You’re simply given the tools and are left to play. Users can download created modifications, with popular ones including Trouble in Terrorist Town and Prop Hunt.
6. Gang Beasts
Gang Beasts is a game that features characters with a jelly-like consistency. There are melee fight sequences and hazardous environments, all while being set in the fictional Beef City. Gameplay involves using punching, kicking and other physical abilities to knock other players out, then try and toss them over one of the stage hazards. It’s silly, but there are tons of fun to be had with this game!
7. Payday 2
Payday 2 is a co-op first person shooter game, completely packed with action. It’s a sequel to 2011’s Payday: The Heist. Players can perform heists alone or team up with three other teammates, either with AI or as part of a multiplayer game. Payday 2 allows for much more customisation of the player, variety in levels and a revamp of stealth mechanics, building on from the first game.
8. Nidhogg 2
The rules of Nidhogg 2 are very simple; get to the other side and kill anyone that stands in your way. Use swords, bows and arrows, or even direct combat, whatever it takes to get ahead! So go on, challenge your friend, or the AI, to a 1v1 match!
9. Overcooked
Overcooked is a couch co-op cooking simulation game for one to four players. Each player controls a chef in the kitchen where their task is to prepare, cook and serve specific orders in a set time limit, all while making sure the kitchen is clean. It may sound simple but it can get quite chaotic!
10. Rocket League
Rocket League is a one to four player football game, but instead of humans, you play as a vehicle. Each player is assigned to one of two teams, in which they choose from a variety of rocket-powered vehicles to help them achieve the aim of scoring goals.
